baka may nakakaligtaan lang. i will be changing my oil kasi, but i am planning to use mineral na lang instead of semi-synth (mas matipid eh - and besides, 6 YO na yung car... maintain na lang 5k oil change...)
ano ba kailangan pang gawin aside from the drain and the change filter stuff? kailangan ko pa bang ipa flushing?

April 19th, 2006 12:52 PM #2boss H_G..you might need to hav the spark plugs checked. baka kelangan na ring palitan para ramdam agad ang hatak. yung air filter palinisan na rin..im not so sure about flushing pero every oil change ko lagi ko pinapa flush. sabi kc nila ok yon in eliminating deposits..
tungkol naman sa oil na gagamitin mo - oo, walang masama kung regular lang. i made this jump just recently. dati kc lagi semi...nway, a friend of mine works for a car plant based here in laguna (hint: japanese make) so pinatanong ko yung opinion nung acknowledged "top mechanic" nila regarding that matter. sabi nya regular lang since yung semi and full synth are meant for performance car at tsaka di naman daw ako kumakarera. hehe! in fact, regular yung gamit nila sa mga service cars nila dun sa planta. ok nga e, may sinuggest kc sya particular oil brand - (Kanaka yata yung name? nakalimutan ko e..) regular lang yon pero he claims that its performance is like that of a semi synth........economical, ryt? my 2 cents.

6 year old car? kahit ano na ilagay mo jan, pero make sure it's not too thick. 15w-40 and 10w-40 ought to be fine, any brand as long as reputable.
naglagay ako ng 5w-30 dati sa crv 1st gen ko. it's been fed only 10w-40 and 20w-50 for the first 4 years of its life. nung pinacheck to yung tappets last month may scuff marks na yung camlobes. i'm guessing it's the oil...too thin. balik magnatec 10w-40 ako. ganun din naman yung engine response eh, fuel economy wala din difference.
jap engines take just about any kind of oil short of olive oil. but 20w-50, is still on the thicker side, IMO. this grade is also cheap and plentiful for a reason: it's got less viscosity improvers and lower quality base oils than grades one step thinner. wala naman kaso if you use this grade, pero if you think about it, ito din yung grade na gamit ng erpats natin sa old-school 1970s era cars natin nun...why would you put it into your 2000 model car?

*paparu: thanks pre. might also be changing the plugs na rin.
*baludoy: pinaflush after jumebs, para pag angat ng toilet seat cover ng next user hindi sya himatayin. hehehehe. kidding bro. seriously, flushing is to remove the deposits lang na tumigas tapos naiiwan ng draining. think of the flush solution as a thinner.
*volts: yup. kaya nga magpapalit na eh. di na advisable semi-synth.

to answer this question bro, should be ihahalo sa used oil. di ko rin alam bakit, pero dahil baka it thins out the oil, making it more non-sticky, so yung mga deposits eh natatanggal.

April 19th, 2006 10:26 PM #7you're probably referring to conoco. it's hydrocracked oil. not the best quality.

hydrocracked means it's still refined from crude oil, but just has a couple of extra steps added to the process. A true synthetic is usually made by reacting gasses.
Somewhat expected from a rushed car from a first time carmaker
