For gasoline engines:
1) mineral oils- change every 5k km or six months
2) full-synth oils- change at 5k km if car used only for city driving. If you do long hway drives, then can extend oil drain but no more than 1 year.
The reason is slow driving does not burn all the condensation in an oil which leads to sludge build up. suggest you also change oil filter at 5k km if you extend drain interval to 10k km.
