July 5th, 2007 10:05 AM #1Due to wear and tear, my transmission is about to undergo a overhaul, but according to HONDA CASA, they won't replace parts by parts, all they have to do is replace the whole old transmission with a re-manufactured a/t transmission coming from there plant. Which would costs around 45k on transmission alone, labor and ATF not yet included. Do you think it's too pricey?
I've got a friend mechanic who told me to buy a rebuiding kit and he'll be the one to repair the worn parts co'z he's got 2 past experience from a civic already.
I told the CASA "what if i'll just buy a rebuilding kit alone and we'll do the job", they told me that they don't sell rebuilding kit alone co'z they need to know if the clutches needs replacement too, which is not included in there building kit. Only rubbers, o-ring and strainer are what's included with the rebuilding kit.
Can anyone refer a shop which sells rebuilding kit outside casa, so that i can minimized my spending. Or any other alternative solution with my transmission problem.
thanks

bro, maybe you could also try asking people at the honda club. i'm sure you'd also get helpful responses from there too here's the link: http://z3.invisionfree.com/HCP/index.php?act=idx

Buying and installing a surplus tranny would be less than half the price of rebuilding your worn out tranny.

September 22nd, 2007 11:57 AM #8Ok thanks for those who replied. It's been a month already. I'll just post what have had happened already.
Last month I also posted regarding a matic to manual convertion scenario (thanks for those who replied too), which is my last option. Kasi it would costs me at least less than 20k.
I'm about to travel M.Mnla. that week to buy those stuff needed in converting the tranny. One night during my daughter's bday, the mechanic, a friend of mine, has drop by to fetch his wife in a gym near to us. I called his attention and invited him for some drinks, and I told him my plan to convert my tranny. He told me na kaka-convert lang din nya matic to manual from a 2002 model VTI, kasi "kumatok" daw ung makina kaya yung owner nagpalit ng makina at the same time M/T na nilagay.
Since iniwan na sa kanya yung mga tinangal, nabangit nya sakin kung gusto ko eh yung matic na lang ulit ilagay and less gastos since the same lang daw yun sa '96 model ko instead mag manual ako marami pa gagalawin.
So since he's the one who insists, di ko na tinuloy pag-convert ng manual and tinuloy nya na pag-gawa. It took only 1 day ung pagpalit nya then bumili ako 4 liters Petron ATF, nagpalit kami. Pinaiwan nya na yung luma tranny ko for experiment daw, and pinag charge nya lang ako 6k pati labor na.
Now it's been 3 weeks na and I already log 900kms sa takbo and talagang mas nag o.k. na compare sa dati ng hindi nagshi-shift.
Here's his conclusion regarding dun sa old tranny. Nabuksan na daw at na-repair na before ko pa nabili yung car, pero hindi daw siguro kabisado nung gumawa ang matic tranny kaya hindi nya naayos yung shifting problem. And told me na mahirap daw talaga mag repair matic since andami daw rubber o-ring na papalitan and mas complicated kesa sa manual.
Now base on my experience too, buti na lang hindi ko agad pinagawa sa casa kung hindi baka na 50k plus ako, and buti na lang di ko rin sinunod ung unang instinct ko na bili ng rebuilding kit at paayos dun sa isang kilala kong mechanic dahil baka in the long run magka problem din. And it is better advised talaga na palit whole transmission instead repairing it, lalo na kung malala na talaga like mine.

September 24th, 2007 08:50 AM #10thanks for correction, maybe it's a '01 model and thought as '02 model.
I don't know nga eh, parang ung VTI ko, '96 nakalagay sa OR/CR pero nung pina check ko minsan sa casa they tag it as '97 model. I ask them why, sabi nila they're basing it sa pagkakagawa ng upuan kasi me manufactured date daw nakalagay dun. Sabi ko pwede ba mangyari yun, and sabi nya pwede kasi ung upuan daw last na nilalagay sa mga newly assembled unit, pwedeng late 1996 ang model ng makina pero early 1997 na-assemble ung car, kaya they told me it's a '97 model na daw. pati nung nagbayad nako naka indicate dun sa O.R. is 97 model din.
This story came from honda pangasinan mechanic.
Buhay na buhay ang BGC this evening. Bukas halos lahat ng restaurants. Sabi pa nung isang cashier...
