Calling all REVO 7K owners.
I have a 6 month old REVO SR 1.8 (7K engine) with an odo reading of 9000+ KMs. Sobrang tumotope! Nakakainis nang i-drive. Since nung 5000Km check up eh puro tope na...hanggang ngayon.
Anong ginawa nyo to resolve? Tulong naman peeps.
I've tried switching back and forth (Super Unleaded to Velocity to Super Unleaded). These were the conflicting instructions of service advisors. Yung iba, they favor super unleaded, yung iba naman velocity.
Bottomline, tumotope pa din.
I have a scheduled 10000KM checkup at Toyota North (malapit sa SM city). BAsed on their analysis and experience, I may need to change my plugs to Bosch Platinum (instead of the Toyota plugs - yung rebadged NGK plugs). Based on their research, Bosch plugs daw tend to be more tolerable on the sensitivities of the 7K engine. They also advised me to switch to Shell SuperUnleaded as they have better results daw compared to other gasoline types and brands. If hindi pa din ma-solve, I may ask them to check the valve clearances...baka wala sa specs. Other than these, wala na rin akong ideas.
Siyanga pala, hindi pa napapalitan plugs ko since I got the vehicle. Hindi nagpalit ng plugs nung 5000km checkup eh. last week, they visually inspected the plugs, mukha daw hindi sumusunog ng tama.
They confirmed naman na my warranty won't be voided.
You should take note off each full tank of each octane rating fuel and monitor if there are any changes. Mixing them up on every half tank will not give you accurate results.
Looks like ayaw nilang gawin ang obvious
Imagine papalitan ng:
1. Gasoline- eh kahit unleaded, leaded, blaze, velocity, ek-ek ay tatakbo ng matino yan engine mo.
2.Change sparkplugs - kahit anong sparkplugs basta same ang specs puwede dyan equivalent W16-EX ata yan.
5 to 10 BTDC pede.
4. Valve clearance? di ba hydrolic valve lifter yan so wala adjust adjust ? automatic adjust yan.
My suggestions:
1. Pa drain your fuel tank, baka may water.
If this doesn't work I suggest they overhaul (top overhaul) or change your cylinderhead .
tope kaya? sigurado ka? or katok? hope not. good luck

Tope or pre-detonation. There's that distinct ticking sound from inside the engine. You can do it on your own by engaging into higher gears before reaching the amount of engine power needed for that particular gear.
So far, mukhang promising yung discussions ko with Toyota North.
Sana nga tope lang. Ang symptom kasi eh tumotope. The 'tik-tik-tik' sound occurs only when accelerating hard, and during uphill.
Kung hindi pa din ma-resolve, after my 10000PMS, then I'll try to discuss your suggestions.
Just finished my 10K PMS.
I'm still using Shell Super unleaded. Will try schedule for a fuel tank drain. I'll see if this will improve/remove the tope.
Thanks to all your suggestions.
Sir Speedy, the 7K engine is very sensitive to fuel impurities, according to Toyota technicians. They told me about the numerous customer complaints that they've raised to Japan. They even sent sample busted sparkplugs to Japan engineers to diagnose the effects of the gasoline variants to the 7K engine. I'm not sure on the exact number of cases they actually reported or send....but I'm hoping they are telling the truth.
Pag alanganin ang gear to-tope talag yan. I guess your 7K is the efi type.
I switched to Velocity. Wala na tope when accelerating or going uphill.
With my A/T REVO, merong times na nagiging alanganin ang gear...like when going uphill along the Ortigas C5 flyover. My re-course is to go Overdrive OFF, para mag-shift to 3rd.
You're right Alex.
