Looks like Maintenance Free battery is not recommended in our country. You decide.

Sir Bogeyman, binasa ko writeup ng Motolite about "Tropicalized" batteries. Eto sabi:

    1. More electrolyte solution:
There is more electrolyte solution above the plates. This means that there is less chance of battery failure due to water loss.

    2. Accessible cells:
Only Motolite MF batteries have accessible cells. This means consumers may prolong the service life of their battery by adding water after the warranty period has lapsed.

    3. Thicker plates:
Motolite plates are packed with more active material. Thicker plates mean longer life.

Pansinin mo yung 1 and 2. Parehong may kinalaman sa tubig ng battery. It all boils down to losing water.

Mas accurate sabihin na 'made from virgin coconut oil'.

based on my experience, maintenance free battery are not really maintenance free at all. one time while checking the battery, we decided to see what's inside- see if the water is still ok. it turns out, the water has gone out. so we have to buy distilled water and replenish the battery. mind you, the battery was only 6 months old (this was for the pick-up truck, for the sedan it was only 3 months).

More than 2 years na rin.

The "tropicalize" thing is stupid IMO.

Tropicalize, pero desert ang background, hello.

In addition, there's NO WAY that Philippine weather is worse than desert locations.

Heck, we don't even have winter, that's where batteries are most challenged.

Local MF batteries are just LOW MAINTENANCE batteries. Real MFs can't be opened and you can't pour water inside.

Gawain ng magagaling na mekaniko dito yan..

14.6. MYTH: Test an alternator by disconnecting the battery with the engine running.

False! A battery acts like a voltage stabilizer or filter to the pulsating DC produced by the alternator. Disconnecting a battery while the engine is running could destroy the sensitive electronic components connected to the electrical system such as the emission computer, radio, audio system, cell phone, alarm system, etc., or the charging system, especially with internal voltage regulators, because the peak voltage can rise to 40 volts or more. In the 1970s, removing a battery terminal was an accepted practice to test charging systems of that era. That is not the case today. Static electricity and spikes from connecting and disconnecting batteries or test equipment could also damage sensitive electronic components.
Same folks that tells you to warm up your engine before driving, revving your engine before turning it off, etc...

basta lumolobo. check/maintain the h2O level once a month. sigurado

    tatagal yan.

Ganun din naman, every week I'm doing an underhood check for other vehicle systems.

mine's (maintenance free) been with me for 3.5 years. so far the only problem i have with it is that the contact points are very worn. (we do a lot of testing of aftermarket parts in my car). May battery'es water level is 8/9. Very surprising for a local brand. Hinde to motolite

    Strong as ever.
