    Guys,

Is it ok to have a change oil without changing the oil filter?

PMS(Change oil interval) for the City is every 10k, which is why I'm currently using semi-synthetic(Honda says they don't have fully synthetic). I'm on 7k since last change oil and I don't like the way the car's engine performs compared to my older car which gets an oil change every 3-5k. Engine's more refined and quieter with new oil and I'd like to keep it at that.

I'm hoping to do have it oil changed alternately between gas station(change oil only) and CASA(following regular PMS).

What I need to know is if I can afford to not change the oil filter. The reason behind it is to not tell Honda that I'm doing this to avoid problems with warranty, as well as to minimize cause(since CASA charges high for the filter) and that the filter's designed to withstand to perform up to 10k.

I also plan to switch to mineral oil in the process.

    Thanks in advance.

in your case, replace it with oem oil filter every 5k then replace the synthetic oil and oem oil filter again on the 10k mark...pampered na city mo nyan ;)

I agree with your advise chieffy, but i'm trying to limit unnecessary costs as well.

I'm hoping to rule out synthetic oils, and possibly replacing the oil filter if it's not needed.

in that case, bring your own synthetic oil the next time around... or find a casa that carries synthetic oil...

no need to replace your oil in between the 10K PMS.

read the manual...it if says na pwede ka mag mineral oil then replace your oil with mineral based ones every 5k...palitan mo na rin oil filter ng oem since sa next 5k makikita ng casa iyan...nakatali ka muna sa oem filter habang may warranty city mo...

or use semi synthetic..replace the oil filter every 5k

payong kapatid, wag ka magtipid sa engine oil at oil filter... preventive maintenance iyan...it will save you more in the long run...

and try to stick with one brand and viscosity.

    Chieffy,

    Which is better?

    1. Using Mobil 1 supersyn and change oil every 10 km...Upon reaching 5km, palit oil filter or

    2. Use Caltex Havoline energy and change oil and oil filter every 5km.

Both oils offer superior engine protection…most of you guys here would agree with me when I say that oils with the latest API rating such as Mobil 1 Supersyn and Havoline Energy could extend your engine oil maintenance interval to 10k kms.

    About your question…
without conducting any test and proof to support my statement I could safely say that changing your oil filter twice between intervals of 10k is better than doing it once…
today’s oils might have enough additives to protect our engine beyond 10k kms but the oil filter has a fixed capacity to do its job and that is to filter contaminants that are harmful to internal parts of the engine…

personally Havoline Energy pa lang nasubukan ko and I change my oil and oil filter every 7500 kms instead of 10000 kms…it gives me extra peace of mind knowing that the oil in my engine continuously gives lubrication and protection…I have no plans of changing brands for this ride…

I would like to try mobil 1 supersyn on my next ride and change the oil filter every 5k kms…

Me natira ko na 1 liter (from 1 gal) last palit ko.

Question mga chong... When i went to check out the Honda Jazz in the dealership some time ago they mentioned that service interval for the new engines is at 10,000km already and not 5... Plus you get an extra bonus on the warranty period if you use Honda oil. Is this the real deal?

Hmm... kung factory specified (i.e. it's on the service manual) then 10K using synth will be ok. However, if on an older car like the Esi which still has the specified 5K interval, it may be better to change oil every 5K whether you're using synth or not. The oil may keep its viscousity and properties for a longer period but the stock oil filter is still designed for lesser periods (and the dirt will just be the same).
