huh!? good as in magaling or good as in honest-good? kung sa magaling then you can't say it unless magpagawa ka and maging satisfied ka sa trabaho niya...

maybe...when he f*ck up the work done to your car???

hinde ko talaga alam how to answer our question...:dunno:

Magaling? Hmmmm mahirap maunahan… maingat at maabilidad? madaling makita agad. Sa gamit pa lang, sa pag hawak and when he fix a simple bolt and nut you can tell if he’s maingat.

Para sa akin, a good mechanic has the following characteristics:
    1. Maingat sa kotse - he valued your car as much as his job.

    2. Honest - being honest and being technically good are two different things. But most of the time, honest mechanics are also the good ones.

    3. "killer instinct" - hehehe what i mean is tingin pa lang, alam na nya problema, pero it's different from those na nagmamagaling lang. Having a quick diagnosis says a lot on his experience.

    eto pinagsamang "magaling" at "honest":

Bring the car to him and have some things checked, but make sure one or two of the things he'll check are perfectly good, and observe his reaction. If he tells you ok lang yan no need to replace, he's being honest and that's good for him and his business. But if he says it's bad and it needs to be replaced, then walk away from his shop (and post it here). Obviously he's out to make a quick buck out of something that's working perfectly fine.

Ethically, mahirap makipag discussion sa mekaniko if you want to buy the parts kasi he cannot provide you with warranty and like Hitomi said lugi siya. If you really trust his business have some parts replaced and purchased by him, allow him to give you his guarantee/warranty, then after a while you can ask him to install a few things from you but don't abuse it.

Finally, the last statement that guarantees he's a good mechanic is his workmanship is very clean, tidy and organized. Look at his shop - is it clean? No oil leaks? All organized? If so then you have somebody who maintains cars AND his shop, which means he will provide utmost cleanliness when working on your car too.

    >A good mechanic ask much more questions than answers.
    >Never says what the problem is unless his sure.
    >From the first time your car goes in the shop he can isolate the problem based on the sound and vibration your car creates.
    >Meron din tao that knows an engine without seeing it just from the sound it creates.

Just today I was at the shop of Raymond Sarol in San Juan, I got his name from MyMitsu Club, he is one of kind, his attitude, expertise and straight forward recommendation really amaze me. What he did to my Lancer EX was like a casa PMS job that would take whole day but he did it all in 2 hours. All I ask of him was change oil and tune up, but he took the initiative to clean and check all brakes, he replace my tensioner bearing, he positioned all my engine bay wirings and cables in such a way it would look like it came from factory He let me buy all the parts from nearby auto supply. What amaze me was the labor fee...very much affordable

Kudos to you Raymond, may your tribe increase

i beg to disagree, pero i do not agree with this kind of approach. kelangan parin ng diagnosis. opinion lang naman po no harm intended

    1. knowledge of the subject(cars)

    2. history/experience

    3. Ethics

    4. how he solves problem--dapat specific or minor parts muna bago yun general. like sira lng pala yun ic eh sasabihin sira yun buong alternator ganun ba.

    5. malinis gumawa--- before and after check ng check. oil leaks check, all screws check, my screwdrivers check ect.

--para lalong malaman dapat itest muna make a simple problem tpos pag diniagnose nya na complicated at mahal yun ah sigurado mananaga yun! like get a busted sparkplug or high tension wire.

a good mechanic doesn't use the "remove the thermostat" technique to remove your overheating problem.

You know he ain't a good mechanic when the first thing that comes outa his mouth is "Ay naku (scratching his head), malaking trabaho to...gagastos tayo dito.."

Gagastos tayo? Eh bakit ako lang maglalabas ng pera?
