city driving po... usually bahay-opisina lang yan.. mga 10-12 kms oneway. but then i was of the impression that i'm making 10+ km/L ratio until i tested
last week using ung "auto full tank" method...

tiger, mataas nga fuel consumption mo, check the ff din:
    1) tire pressure at baka masyadong malabot
    2) A/F mixture .. don't know to check/adjust this
    3) fuel filter and air filter
    4) your odometer might be malfunctioning
    5) did you change anything on the tires/transmission?

and hindi po gaano accurate yung "auto full tank" method pag iba't-ibang gasoline stations, try po ninyo yung "sagad to the brim" method, you will a have more accurate reading on this..

Is the aircon always on? Do you keep the engine idling for long periods?

mejo mataas po ata konsumo niya sir tiger ah. i get almost that value (nearly 8km/liter) with a 2.4L engine. and that's usually from quezon city to makati (about 20km one-way).

Sir Tiger, could you give more details like the kind of traffic you encounter going to and from your office, the size of tyres (std or oversized)? This would help our expert peeps to analyze. Mukhang mataas nga ang konsumo.

while it is true na habang naluluma ang makina, lumalakas sa gas, that is because the engine is subjected to inevitable wear and tear. however, maraming factor kasi ang paglakas ng konsumo sa gas.

    1. traffic condition
    2. driving style
    3. engine condition (displacement, setup, mods)
    4. distance from point a to b.
    5. engine load (payload)

di ko na babanggitin yung iba kasi i assume alam na natin yun.

sir, i think normal lang yan, yung sa boss ko 95 1.3 xe corolla 6km/l lang. city driving yun.

It does not depend on the age of the engine alone. Maintenance and driving style would also greatly affect fuel mileage. We have a 20 year old car that performs quite well. My 10 year old Accord (a/t) gets 8-9km/l.

The main difference with engines then and now is that most new models have computer controlled fuel injection.

A tune-up would be a good idea if you have not done this yet within the past 6 months. A little DIY knowledge would be a lot of help too.

If the idling speed or timing is not good fuel consumption would also usually go up.
