kung 45L ang tank capacity e d ok pla fuel consumption ko dhil almost 500 km na natakbo ko at hindi pa totally ubos mahirap kasi magicing ung mga latak sa ilalim..thanks guys
I think 8km/l is low for a 1.3 engine with stock carbs... here are some things you might want to check out.
- carb rebuild (maybe a leaky diaphragm?)
- air filter / fuel filter replacement
- carb air-fuel ratio adjustment
- engine timing adjustment
- spark plugs
- brake pads sticking (happened once to our tamaraw fx which caused the low fuel mileage, not to mention very hot tire rims after a drive)
- unaligned or unbalanced wheels
- low tire pressure
I'm running an old 4G32 1.6l engine with twin dual side-draft carbs and am getting 7km/l city driving. And I have a very heavy foot ;-) (you get addicted to the sound of the dual carb purr after awhile hehehe)
this is my problem too. my 1990 XL corrolla 1.3L is only doing 8.4 kms it used to do 10-11kms, all driving conditions are the same.....i had a major tune up done just 15 months ago, miles run since was only 14,000kms (isnt that considered recent?).....
i will try having it tuned up and carb cleaned at the kamuning area where they have all those carb shops.....

we have the same car model but your consumption is quite high. I consume +/- 12 to 15 km/l, i just maintain a good tune-up and a wheel/tire alignment. office to work lang din, sa hapon ko lang open ang aircon.
shell gas station lang ako kasi i've noticed pag sa petron medyo malakas ang consumo. just my personal oberservation.
I use to own a 1300cc big body XL. nakaka 10km/li ako, pero pag super traffic 6-8 km/li lang. sa highway 12-14 km/li depending sa mood ko...hehehe. a similar 1600 efi toyota of my neighbor has the same consumption as mine. mas efficient talaga ang efi equipped engine than one that has a carb in it.
Madaming variables to consider to gauge fuel effeciency between an old (ten years or more) and a year or less old car. As a car aged components wears out. You might not notice it but your bearings isn't as smooth as it was before. Your clutch slips a little, tires get old...and so on. Oh, and there's the so called upgrade - changing to wider/bigger tires, etc.
usually toyota corolla 1.3 m/t models usually consumes 10km/L on normal city driving.. during traffic, you use gas with less mileage so the consumption drops between 8 to 9.
the car is already atleast 12 years old. Is it consuming oil as well? try to observe the color of the smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe.. and also try to check the burning by examining the spark plug... most likely, you have a worn out piston ring or the cylinder liners are already worn out and damage - making your car a possible candidate for overhaul..
Finally got my carb cleaned at Kamuning, had a tune up as well....so far after my first full tank of city driving (same conditions as before)
I now get 9.7 kms/liter from my previous 8.2kms!!! for my 1990 xl corolla. i am now on my 2nd full tank and hope to see the same improved mileage again!!
