Hi, again I need your advice. It's again regarding my Tita's 5-year old Ford Lynx. Dami na lumalabas na problema. While going to Tagaytay via Aguinaldo Hi-Way bigla na lang daw namatay yun makina then when she checked under the hood nakita nya daw yun tibug from radiator pumupunta dun sa container an nakadikit sa radiator via a small tube (eto di ko alam kung ano tawag) tapos ayaw na mag start pero after mga 10 minutes pahinga nag start na ulit yun engine. ano kaya problema nun lynx nya? She plan to bring it to Casa pero sabi ko magtatanong muna ako dito.

The small container you are referring to is the water reservoir. Normal lang na pumupunta ang tubig dyan. Di naman ata overheat ang problem kasi you would have mentioned it. Try nyo pa check ang fuel pump, fuel lines baka clogged. Hope my suggestions would be of help. . .

Five years old and she's the original owner? Or has it been with her for five years and it's a 1998 to 2000 model?
It sounds like the car is overheating or getting hot due to an old radiator cap. You should really replace it every year or two, to be on the safe side, as a worn radiator cap will cause boil-over (which sounds like what your Tita is descriing).
And when the coolant boils, the engine gets hot, which causes some of the electronic sensors to overheat. I'd bet you ten-to-one that either the cam position sensor or the ignition coils overheated when that happened. A sign of cam position sensor failure is exactly as described... the car stops for ten to fifteen minutes, then starts up again once it's cooled off. If no permanent damage occured, then it should be okay... but if the car stalls again, you should replace it. The part costs about 3,500 to 4,500 at the Banawe shops.
But I'm just guessing here, only a competent mechanic familiar with the Lynx can tell you for sure what happened.

Either OEM or Federal Mogul will do.
You can try Minerva Tire Gallery (Binan or Alabang), they have decent mechanics (and the manager of the Binan branch is a friend), but they don't really have a complete set of spares for the Lynx.
You can Do-It-Yourself at home for the initial check-up... take off the radiator cap and check that the seals and spring are still good... but heck, it's so old you might as well replace it, anyway. Once you've replaced the cap, take it to a local shop and have the coolant drained, clean the radiator, then put in new coolant and water (50:50 coolant:distilled should be just right)... drive it into traffic and observe. If it stalls but doesn't overheat, then you probably have to replace one of the two electronic items I mentioned above. If it overheats or starts getting hot, check your water pump and radiator hoses for leaks. There are sometimes pinpoint leaks in the radiator hoses that only show up when there's water going through them at high pressure.

in behalf of niky.
minerva alabang is at filinvest southgate, alabang. there are two ways on entering it...
first is via commerce avenue, turn right dun sa street before total gas station, go inside the guard house and turn left. after turning left, makikita mo yung minerva sa left side mo.
from alabang zapote road, pasok ka dun sa may alabang home depot street, in front of chevrolet alabang, turn right after the guard house, and left following the street of chevy alabang. yung sa street after chevy, turn right, follow the road and makikita mo yung minerva.
hth.

Don't know anything about the Bacoor area, but there are lots of shops around Alabang. Good luck and keep us posted!
If there are parts that you can't source at the place you'll have the work done, check at forum.fordclubph.com and ask around for the phone numbers and addresses of the Ford parts shops in Banawe, Q.C.... they often cost a lot less than you can get here in the south. ;)
