Aren't oils with a 0 winter grade commonly used in countries with freezingly cold weather?

    WBR,
Recommending motor oils for freezing temperatures in a tropical country, do the guys at Toyota really know what they're doing?

I presumed not, cause primarily they are after huge profits just like the case in Fortuner woes thread..

As long as they guarantee your ride, then maybe ther's no problem with me IMO...

di talaga ma-reach, sobrang mahal... that leaves me with two choices nalang: honda fully synthetic (P2200) and havoline fully synthetic (P2400)... ayoko talagang mag honda oil kasi SJ lang yung api rating nya...i havent read reviews on havoline fully synthetic yet, la ngang nag-reply sa thread ko about it.

Wala ba sa CFG?, if nobody has it, you can use the 5w50 one, it's more suitable for our country's climate, yung 0w40 is better suited for Countries with colder climates. Kaya wala sguro masyado nagbebenta ng 0w40 na Mobil1 dito.

puro castrol lang ang cfg....no w50 muna ako as of now, it might void my warranty kasi walang mga w50 na recommended viscosity sa manual...as much as possible i'd go for w40 kasi di masyadong manipis, di rin masyadong malapot.

falken, i think you should try to research muna on oils. don't think you are clear about how they work or the ratings.

indeed, we don't get close to winter here so the 0 in the 0w40 isn't used. but neither do we get close to 5 degrees, so useless ba din yun?

look at the second number, that's number is more indicative of the purpose of the oil you should be using.

0 means it's stable to 0, but it doens't mean it doesn't work for our temp, 0W40 means the oil remains the same in terms of protective qualities whether the ambient temp is 0 or 40deg.

Speedyfix, please correct me if I'm wrong, from my understanding, the 1st number is for oil that meets low temperature requirements , and the second number is for high temperature requirements, so in a warm country like ours a higher 2nd numbered oil will suit us better? I'm currently using 5w40 oil on my van, wala namang heavy load or extreme driving conditions, pwede na ba yung viscosity na yun?

Unsurpassed protection for multi valve engines
Helps keep your engine running like new
Improves engine protection during critical start-up period
Excellent high and low temperature performance
Proven low fuel fuel consumption formula

I'm not the only one who's using this kind of oil... no problem at all....

Mobil 1 0-40 ang gamit ko since last yr to my 2001 SR REVO and I'll be using this one to my new Getz on its 1k PMS. You can feel the difference sa hatak with smoother Idling on the engine. Well, baka pakiramdam ko lang na tumulin ang car ko pero tingin ko mas ok sya kesa dating langis ng TOYOTA.Dinadala ko lang every uwi ko dyan sa atin around P350/liter as per my conversion

I think Toyota recommends it due to running problems they were having on their 1ZZ engine in the US due to the long change intervals (10k MILES sila doon... )... there should be no problem with 0w on their new close tolerance engines. It's not a JUST a money making scheme... it's also to protect the life of their new engines, which aren't proving as bulletproof as they'd hoped.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
