2011 Toyota Side Mirror Lens Only - Where to buy?

have a number of issues here...

1. where can you recommend buying a side mirror lens?
-when my 2006 city broke honda casa quoted me 500, with 1 month waiting time
-i just called toyota and it's going to 1737, why is a honda side mirror so much cheaper???
- cheapest i canvassed so far, toyorama, 1450 original side mirror lens

2. do protectors work?
-someone said to glue the mirror, but then i'd risk damaging the motorized controls
-etching doesn't seem to deter thieves who don't know better
-side mirror guards might work, but i've read horror stories of the entire assembly being wrecked...
