Came across this article on the much-awaited Tata Nano CRDi coming later this year and touted to deliver close to 40 km/L highway FC. Here's the link:

    http://www.indiancarsbikes.in/cars/i...40-kmpl-26944/

    Some interesting tidbits:
    • 800 cc 3-cylinder CRDi motor, Honeywell (Garrett) turbo, Bosch engine management, delivering 30 km/L urban FC
    • Cheaper direct injection variant delivering 30 km/L in development (still impressive)
Other sites state that the 800 cc CRDi is smallest production CRDi engine. With highway FC like that, I could get to Baguio on about 8 liters of diesel, and not worry about the steep climbs because of CRDi torque!

Nano sales have rebounded from just 800 units in November last year, up to 8,000 units in February, so I guess the electrical fires are a thing of the past.

    Cheers

I have read somewhere in tsikot.com forums that a fully loaded Hyundai Accent CRDi has problems going up parking building ramps.

That's what I read and remembered. Parang one or two of the passengers had to get out para makabuelo yung car up the ramp. Once the car is moving, kaya na daw even with full load.

    Mukhang mahina ang initial torque.

Pero sa straight, Imba yung Accent. Tuwang-tuwa ako nung ma-drive ko kahit M/T e

Kaya yung dalawang bumaba, they have to get in the car while the car is moving

Puro sila 40km/L, ilang HP ba yan at ilang NM ang torque?

Regarding power and torque, there is mention of these figures at the link below:

    Power : 36 KW (about 49 PS)
Torque : 80 NM (about 100 nm/L displacement like a modern petrol engine, seems a bit low for a CRDi)

    Link: http://www.indiancarsbikes.in/cars/t...sel-power-650/

But when compared to the standard 624 cc petrol's output of 35 PS and 48 NM, it's a definite improvement. And with only 600 KGS to haul around (not including a lardy 75 kg driver), the diesel should be OK.

When compared to the Suzuki Alto with 47 PS, 62 NM, and 720 KG kerb weight, things look even better.

Now if only someone could bring it here...

    Cheers

Pero kaya ba talaga 40km/ltr? Hirap dyan kung mataon na kelangan magkarga ng mabigat or magsakay ng marami. Hassle yung paba-baba eh sabay a tulak pa.

Pero meron naman siguro market yan dito if reliable and durable naman. Kesa MC.

*Ry_Tower That's a good question. Let's wait for the official claim of Tata when it's launched.

If we go by history, the official FC tester in India (ARAI) certified the petrol Nano at 23.6 km/L FC, while Tata itself only claims 20 km/L mixed FC for Nano.

Siguro naman kaya since according to Tito Hermoso, nakakuha yung Hyundai Accent CRDi ng 38.7 km/L highway FC (at 2x kerb weight!).

    Cheers

wala pa kong nakikitang naglakas loob na mag import ng mga tata nano dito. if they are cheap sa india, i believe mas mura naman ipa ship yun dito kumpara sa ibang luxury cars. wala bang pwedeng maging supplier ng mga nano dito? interesting kasi yang crdi nila eh..

Sana matuloy nga tapos yung unit eh 100-150k lang.

Para naman mabawas bawasan din mga naka-motor.

I can even consider getting one if it's really good and economical. Pangharabas lang ba. Pampunta ng palengke.

Kung ganyan lang sya kamura ah, if it's cheaper -- although unlikely -- the better.

According to the article linked below, the LHD nano was still in development last April :

Tata Nano takes a left hand drive into overseas markets - 2

The 3-4 months development time mentioned brings us to August this year, so maybe the LHD isn't ready for export until Q3 2012. The next question will be whether it will be brought in CBU or CKD...

If CBU, then Nano is subject to 30% import duty. The base model is about US$2,500, on top of which logistics costs, import duty, excise tax, administrative costs, and local taxes are added. A resulting SRP of near PHP200k is possible...

If CKD, then 0% import duty but there will be assembly costs that need to be recovered. Jigs, tooling, EDP paint process, labor costs, overhead, etc. will be distributed over the total volume. It could easily cost more than the import duty if volume is low, making CKD unfeasible.

I'm very curious about how the importer will go about the Tata Nano.

    Cheers!
