I was at Market Market last Sunday and they had a mini car expo.

There was this double-cab pickup, made by FOTON, which was selling for 620K. Power everything (windows, locks..) the interior build quality was mediocre, kind of like a Getz but worse.

But for 620K, who's complaining? it has a 4JA1 engine (I believe FOTON licenses the Isuzu technology).

4x2 lang ata yan. kita ko kagabi sa trinoma. una nga kala ko maliit na dmax. pero nagtaka ako sa logo at sticker sa gilid na nakasabi "Blizzard". yun pala chinese brand. sabi ng sales agent "isuzu technology" daw. dunno kung makina lang or hanggang body ang influence ng isuzu. anyway, im still not sold sa chinese brands. though mukhang ok na rin for the price and what you get.

It's even cheaper with the Chinese engine... mga 450k, I think. Saw it before outside the World Trade Center, at a motor show.

Several clients bought foton trucks last year. Most of them complained of the shabby workmanship and defective engine. Most of them now have decided to sell their trucks.

Which ones did they buy, though? The base model or the "Isuzu" engined ones?

As always, you get what you paid for.

You'll be better off getting a slightly (2-3 years) used pickup for the same amount of money.

So, they're not real Isuzu engines? Just licensed copies?

If they were real Isuzu engines, and only the body and suspension are Chinese, it might be worth the money... but if they're made by Foton per se, it's a crapshoot if anything will last long enough for you to get ROI on these things as service vehicles.

we actually got to try it out at world trade center before. when i checked the engine there was a "turbo" but i dont think twas working. the interior was really bad, compared to the cheapest grade isuzus and toyotas. they were telling us bout a 40k discount or something that's good for that exhibition only, and he said na may mga bumili na. good thing we dint get suckered into buying one!:tounge:
