    AIRCON COMPRESSOR UPDATE:

THE MOST DREADED PART OF YOUR CAR THAT WILL EVENTUALLY BREAK DOWN!!

It is official that you can use a NON-OEM compressor for your OPEL!! I used a Japanese made DENSO compressor for a Mitsubishi and TOYOTA!! It just needs a few minor bracket conversion. OEM cost P28,000-32,000 as compared to a brand new non-OEM of about P8,000 and a good surplus of around P2,800.

I discovered that the compressor used on the ASTRA is made in KOREA!! While the one used on the VECTRA and Zafira is a DENSO made in japan. There are no Compressors made in Germany or some euro country.

It is prone to break with a lifespan of about 5-6 years at most. I was not spared of this as my compressor just broke a few days ago as I posted here.

As of today, the aircon is working like new. Same coldness, silent and with a very quiet compressor engagement. you hardly know you turned on the A/C switch. Also, my idling and acceleration improved!! Maybe due to the new compressor clutch connected to the drive belts.

If I had the P32,000 cash, I would have bought the OEM compressor from Thunder right away for peace of mind. But with a bit of anxiety and crossed fingers, I hope this converted compressor will last.

To add: I spent about P8,000 total, with a good surplus compressor and a BEHR (oem opel) Drier and expansion valve since you cannot convert this as this is connected to the car's ECU and Auxiliary fan controls.

I know that the Astra compressor being sold at Thunder is Korea. I think pang Daewoo din yata yon. If there are no European compressors, then iyong nasa casa, Korea din? Then why the heck is it so expensive (80k++ compared with 30k++)? What makes the casa compressor different with replacement compressors kaya?Brand name?

good to see the opel brand gaining some followers!

edl, you got a surplus expansion valve and drier? is this expensive if you get it new from thunder? good to know there are alternatives
hope to see the brackets and the compressor soon, just to see how it looks.

I got a brand new expansion valve and drier specifically for the Opel. It was quoted at P2,800 for both. You cannot get just any generic expansion valve and drier since iba ang fittings nito and this was connected to the ECU and Fan controls. MM got the part for me.

There is actually no bracket. It still used the old bolt holes from the car to fit the compressor. May konting adjustments and spacers lang but it is not noticable.

I still cannot comment on the long term performance as it is just a day old.

    Hi,
I own an Opel Astra 2003 Model Automatic. Medjo mahina yun makina but very stable and okay talaga and porma. I can't believe it, I drive it mostly highway driving from Alabang to Quezon City and I get about 10 to 12 Km per litre. So far, my car has done 20km. So far, wala naman problem with the car. The last time I brought it to the dealer was for a 10k service and it cost me close to 4k. For the 20k service, I just did it myself with the help of a mechanic. I just changed the oil, oil filter, air filter and checked the brakes. I used Mobil 1 for the oil.

Just hoping that nothing will go wrong with my Astra.

I'll post some more if I did any mods.

That's good news. That is the number one part that is prone to fail aside from the compressor. Madaming parts to look out for. But I guess most are already mentioned here already.

Are car repair shops in Australia expensive?? I guess you have to learn a bit of DIY specially for easy jobs.

    localhost,

i think you got luckier or better opel astra. yung sa akin less than 40T kms pa lang umingay na ka-agad yung timing belt. So I had no choice but have it fixed sa casa.

Strangely, less than 8Tkms later umingay ulit. Under warranty pa yung service but I did not buy the spare parts sa case so I had no choice but to buy the bearing sa casa na.

Do you guys know anybody repairing the power windows? nasira yung power rear power window ko driver side? How much did the repair cost.

I love this car kaya I'ms sticking with it. By the way, my car is black 2000 astra sedan.

I would like to join the next eb.
    thanks for your feedback.

Wow!! I hope dumami ang loyal Astra owners here. As most are selling theirs since natatakot sa pagawa

Sure, if there are more willing members who would want to have an EB then we can set a date.

I am also sticking with my Zafira till the end. Kahit ang dami ko nang gastos dito. Iba pa din ang pride and feeling that we own a real EURO-German car!!

common din daw yung pagkasira ng power window especially yung rear side... luckily, I've got a PAWIS window hehehe... manual ika nga pati side mirror ko manual din... yun kasi inisip ko eh. In the long run mas mahal pagawa ng power.

Although nakakaisip ako dati na ebenta rin yung ASTRA ko eh bandang huli nabago isip ko... there's something in that car that I really like. parang na-hook ako even my wife ganoon din so i-keep na lang namin eto. And even I have a rebadged OPEL.. alam ko european car gamit ko

afaik, hindi nililinis aircon opel (at least for the astra). you just have to regularly replace the pollen filter ng a/c.try mo muna palitan filter and see kung mawala ang amoy.pwede naman DIY lang yan.a new filter is around 700 (thunder) and 1.2k sa casa.

guguly is correct, try replacing the pollen filter first since dito nag suck ng air ang blower. If you go to an Aircon shop, baka tagain ka pag palit nito. If you have time and a bit of DIY, just remove the glove compartment. Trace the blower system and the tubes. There should be a rectangular casing for it held by clips. That is the pollen filter housing.

It is like the filter sa house aircon natin. Pag malinis, mas malamig ang aircon and mas malakas ang blower.

As of the aircon technician. Don't go to Mang Mario as suggested in the tsikot.com threads. He is really not good. Trust me. Ive been a victim. He is better with japanese cars.

Anyone know any good service center here in Makati... my astra has got probs with idle, its not steady, and if you push on the sports mode and floor it.. makes a whole lotta noise, oh and it still veers to the right..and now i'm hearing some sort of knocking sounds everytime I go over a patch of broken road.. shocks had just been changed to Bilstein. Wanna take it sometime next month for a through check up. Its already at 72K... still ticking.. hehe..
