NAIA boss acts on complaint of returning OFWs

Following the complaint of returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) regarding the exorbitant fares being charged by companies duly authorized to provide airport taxicab and shuttle services in both old Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and Centennial Airport, NAIA General Manager Alfonso Cusi yesterday responded immediately and ordered the streamlining of a new transport system at the two terminals.
Cusi said the complaint of the OFWs is timely because he has already planned to streamline a new transport system at NAIA and at the Centennial Airport.
Acting on the public petition against prohibitive taxi fares, the NAIA administration made a review of the tariff system of airport taxicab and shuttle services and immediately set the ground rules for the implementation of a new transport system with the objective of finally putting an end to the era of overpricing or exorbitant taxi fares in both the old NAIA and Centennial airports.
Cusi assured the public, particularly the returning OFWs, that effective immediately, airport taxicabs would have regular queues at the old NAIA and the Centennial airports, just like the system at the Domestic Airport and at the malls.
“Our new system would ensure that exorbitant taxi fares at the airports will become things of the past. It will also put an end to colorum taxicab operators from plying the airport routes and preying on hapless passengers. In addition, it will also erase the perceived “harassment” being made by agents of taxicab and shuttle service operators at the lobby of the airports to arriving passengers who are practically left with no transport choice, especially if they carry tons of luggage,” Cusi explained.
“We need to implement a new system because we owe it to the public, especially the OFWs, who are instrumental in keeping our economy alive,” Cusi added.
Cusi also assured the public the implementation of new transport system is just part of the many improvements that the NAIA administration is looking into at the airports to better serve and ensure the convenience of the riding public.
Upon getting confirmation that the collective petition of OFWs has swiftly been acted upon by the NAIA management, United Filipino Seafarer (UFS) president Nelson Ramirez expressed his gratitude on behalf of the OFWs and the public to Cusi for living up to his reputation as a “man of action.”
“His prompt action on the issue only shows that Mr. Cusi is a true public servant. And the riding public would be truly grateful for his efforts. Our government deserves more of his kind of public servant,” Ramirez said.
