Nope, the Frontier is more or less based on the Nissan X-Terra. These two are related like the Terrano/Pathfinder and Eagle series pick-ups before.

The Mistral is know as the "Terrano II". It was a follow up of the D21 (Eagle) based Terrano series (the one relased here). It is a truck unlike the X-trail which is a unibody.
Frontier = X-terra/Xciter/Paladin
X-trail = some car I don't know. hehehe.

August 18th, 2003 11:18 PM #5kahit sa engines, magkaiba.
the x-trail uses QR series engines (2.0 and 2.5 gas) which could also be found in USDM sentras. JDM x-trails also has the 250 hp SR20VET as an engine option.
asian frontiers uses diesel engines, namely the aging TD27 and QD32. the frontier in thailand uses the ZD30 engine, the same one that can be found in our local nissan patrols. US frontiers use the KA24DE (in line 4) and the VG33DE (V6), both of which are nearing phase out.

The X-Trail shares some bits and pieces with the Skyline.
The TD27 is relaitvely old already but its still good. Now if only i can shoehorn a ZD30 turbo with big brakes into my Frontier...
