Hi Dvldoc,
I'm reading all your post in Tsikot for a week now and I've learned a lot to maintain my Elgrand in good condition. I don't have any of the modifications you have suggested yet but i'll install it one by one though I'm not a mechanic. I can't even change the engine oil myself. Anyone can suggest a place or person to install it for me? Thanks for your helpful threads.
oh they are not my neighbor, just a car shop. i just added 2 people on facebook so one is probbably u guys. if u come to Angeles I can run u up to #ubic and we will check theres out, there units have much lower kilometers on them.

Might be too much of an imposition on you doc. I could text or call the one near your place if you have their number. My cellphone number is 09214080438, name's jayson. I think you added someome else on facebook, wife's name is Kristine. Maybe i could strike a deal with them thru texting or calling.
no problem for me, we are trying to ditch our starex for another elgrand.. I wont be back that way to get the number till later
Was with the dvldoc the whole day today and with his help, I got a very nice elgrand, and a rider at that. Whole trip was educational as I learned from the master himself. U DA MAN DOC! Owe you a big one bud.
No problem man, it was a pleasure, biggest lesson pics from ads are very deceptive. I looked at at least 12 elgrands only 3 were in what I would call ready to go condition. thats why I like were i got my van they only carry the best ones.
That Rider is one awesome looking elgrand, One of the best looking Elgrands i have seen. I have a keen nose and eye for used vehicles been helping people find cars for years and I dont play games with the sales men, which youu found out today wen I told him his vehicles were in terrible shape and not worth buying in San Fernando. so it was off to subic from there.
Seeing more and more of these vehivles every day, best van for the money when u can find a nice one.

Doc,
Will havd to lift my elgrand, too low for mountain roads bud, eye catching though. I will try the spacers that you suggested. I thing that about 3 inches would be needed.
dvldoc - You have been an immense help to me. I bought a 1997 Elgrand V in Japan and had it shipped to Canada where I just moved to. I'm going to do the MAF mod and cleaning asap.
Canada has some strict rules about safety inspection when importing a vehicle. They gave me a whole bunch of things that need correcting - one of which is the rack and pinion is leaking. They say I must replace the whole unit. Is that the same unit used on Nissan Pathfinder of the same year?
Also failing the inspection are the parking and turn signal assemblies (front and back) which apparently are not DOT/JIS/JASIC certified. What could I use to replace these? They also said the headlight reflectors/lenses are facing oncoming traffic (RHD) and need to be changed for LHD.
I really want to drive this baby in Canada, but can't do anything until I pass the inspection. Any advice?
The rack and pinion is pathfinder of the same year. you would have to get some custom lenses for the headlights and look for aftermarket tail lights for the back. elgrands safety wise meet Canada and US standards but the lights will not. they were not intended for our market. best place to look would be ebay japan.
Thanks for your fast reply. Your words are like gold for me - having this car on the road is a huge priority for my family right now. Going through your posts in this thread is enough material to fill a textbook on the Elgrand!
The safety inspector was talking about the reflectors facing the wrong way - do you think something like LHD reflectors be available online? I've been looking for someone who's brought it to a LHD country but haven't found anything.
But I will look for DOT-approved turn signal assemblies on ebay Japan.
Thank you so much again -![]()
I might try HiD projectors if that's what it takes to pass inspection. I'll ask the inspector.
I also might try calling Nissan in Japan and see if they make a JASIC-compliant upgrade.
the vans here are converted, but they dont modify the reflectors unfortuatly. there are also some decal like stickers that redirect the light they are for use in europe when going from a lhd country to a rhd country. when i am online i will post the link, i am on my phone.
