I'm 17 now and been looking into getting a car for when i hopefully pass my test soon but there's a 3 month waiting list for the written exam and another 3 month waiting list after that for the practical. I've done over 30 hours of practical lessons now in a 1.5 Ford Fiesta Diesel.

I've been wanting a Japanese car over a euro since birth (japs are better built and are just better). So my question to you all is: In general, would a 2005 N16 1.5 SVE Almera be a good 1st car? (I live in Cardiff, Wales, UK if that helps)

Also;

Who makes the best lowering springs for the N16; I'd probably lower it after a year.

comfort wise.. the bigger car will be better.

fc wise, you're better off with the suzuki engine and lighter body...

Got a used 2017 almera AT (18k mileage) today na sis ko gagamit sa Pinas. Na-embargo ng bank. Sold for 500k na 540k dapat pero kaibigan ng bro ko yung nagtatrabaho sa bank kaya nakiusapan ng discount since cash naman.

I also own a 2013 sentra SL dito sa US at yung maintenance ay every 3months or 3k miles (whichever comes first). Medyo worried ako sa atin kasi every 10k ata based on my research. I think i’ll follow yung pms dito sa states!?

its out of warranty anyways. find a motech shop nearby. duon sya pa oil change and air filter cleaning.

third party insurance (TPL) is required by law. cheap lang yan. less than 1000 bucks.
the other types of insurance are optional, if you already own the car.
if you are still paying for the car under the mortgage program, the mortgage owner will require you to get a comprehensive insurance policy, to protect their investment.

Punta ako ng mga showrooms kahapon. So far dalawa ang nabetan ko na car:

Honda City VX Navi 1.5 (976k)
Nissan Almera VL1.5 (933k)

Nachakahan ako sa Vios, Ciaz, Mirage at Accent kaya I'm a bit nega for those. Di ko feel unang kita pa lang. Hehe.

Sa 2 cars na nabetan ko super naamaze ako sa Almera as in ang laki ng legroom at ang neat tingnan ng interior color. Grabe din ung aircon kabubukas pa lang super lamig na. Sa city naman, oks lang ang impression ko. Sa exterior naman ang nagandahan ako. Sakto lang ang legroom.

Im about to consider Almera pero andaming nagsasabi sa kin na chaka daw yun in terms of reliability. Well ok lang din naman ako sa city but my heart is beating for almera. Of course, this will be a significant capital expenditure. Depreciation wise, wala naman akong keber sa salvage value kasi pangmatagalan ko na to.

Pero can someone confirm or advise kung ano talaga ang the best sa dalawa. Baka naman kasi magsisi ako kung sirain ang almera. Help me please! Targeting to have a new car this May.

the nissan is ok with its spartan engine and transmission. ive tried and its really good. its ac is really good. it can dry up your sinus.

for the price i would rather get the new civic or wait for the new corolla.. or look at the Vios XE. upgrade the headunit speakers and tint. add a reversing camera and front and rear sensors. led headlights.

Since you considered the Accent, have you checked the Soluto and Reina (though for value I think Soluto is better hands down compared to the Reina).

I don't think you can really go wrong with the Almera per se since it falls into the category of tried and tested mechanically.

I'm not sure how efficient it is though given that it is a 4AT with a 1.5L engine. I managed to drive my uncle's 1.3 Sentra GX before that had a 4AT and that was a bit thirsty for my liking.

Per my recollection of the Almera, the rear aircon vents are just connected to fan blowers and not the aircon compressor itself. So they will help circulate the air but won't be blowing cold air to your rear passengers. Don't know if the last refresh changed this so feel free to correct me.

Just curious though, since you mentioned height as an issue from the ground, have you looked at the BRV since it is just a little over 1m php? It has a bit of higher ground clearance, but not too high like your regular PPVs, still drives like a car and a little more flexibility in the cargo config department. Disregard the third row seats unless you need them for emergencies for short trips.

As Stock Engine mentioned as well, at your price point of 950k to 1m php, it might be also an option to consider a compact instead of a subcompact? Altis or Sylphy?

Re Nissan/Honda CVT, family owns to this day the Honda City 1.3 i-Dsi that had the first CVT gen from Honda (if I'm not mistaken). The failure of those unit were worrisome and I think we are lucky we don't have issues (yet) with the CVT. It is in the shop now, but not for CVT issues.

As for the Sylphy, actually own the 1.6CVT model. Main downside is the need to use 95RON (Premium Unleaded) but the SnR Unioil discounts easily balance it out and make the per liter price similar to a 91RON (after Unioil Discount) So it worked out in the end for me. Also no issues (yet) for my unit but fellow Sylphy owner (1.8 CVT) Krazeyrock had his CVT fail on him. Not sure what the diagnosis was reported as possible cause of the failure.

Re the BRV, I honestly see it as a 5 seater and not the touted 7 seater because when the Juke and BRV launched here, the BRV easily won my vote because of the middle row's legroom (my knees were hitting the back of the front seats for the Juke when I adjusted them to my driving position.)

Maybe check out Volkswagen as well as the last stop after Kia to check out the sub 1m selection they have. I know it is made in China but it still should have passed Volkswagen Quality Control Standards. =)

Oh I'm surprised that Sylphy should be fueled with high octane gas. Why is that the case? The more I won't consider it muna.

If 1 or 2 pax only, no problem with 91 ron. But with 3 or more passengers. Cargo, especially going up inclines, the difference is noticeable.

So i just used recommended 95 ron. Its in the manual. 1.6 uses 95ron, but 1.8 engine recommended is only 91ron.ü

Haha. Well, if uses sport mode, then he is fine with revving over 2000rpm.

I rarely use it, but have to when im in sloping roads of rizal from time to time.

But im usually just either in drive most of the time or low gear when going down parking ramps (to use engine braking more than the brake pedal) ü

Ask his average fc on 91ron, it would not be great. If pure city driving, with average speed of 12 to 14kph only, im guessing he is at best 6km per liter, maybe even worse.

if 95ron go for caltex platinum. 95ron is only1 peso more than the 91ron silver. its 47.xx at landers&caltex
