it appears that Nissan philippines is overestimating its case for the Z here... they'll probably market it to people who would think that the car is on the same range as a Porsche 911 (based on the looks) hehehe

nice observation mbt!
from the write-ups that i've read, it seems that they are targeting this to potential porsche buyers. but if am a porsche buyer, that P1M difference between the Boxster S and the Z wouldn't really matter. plus you can always say that your car is a "Porsche", with the Z, people would just say "350Z what?".
but for that price, i'd rather get a Z4... and spare some change...
Here's my prediction; In a year's time, the official Z's price will go down by 200T to 300T or maybe more. Because this is how it is when a new product is launched. We are having this lengthy discussion because we are basing our arguments on MSRP's listed at the back of US car magazines. We are overlooking the fact that the "S" in MSRP means "suggested". When the 1st gen Miata came out in the US many years back, dealers were selling it for as much $40,000! the same with the S2000, the Lancer Evolution, MB SL, 350z etc., they were being sold at double their MSRP! Isn't this also true with the ubiquitous cellphones? Why sell a car at MSRP when people are lining up at dealer's showroom at 4am in the morning?
Speaking of lambho, I just passed by the showroom last week, kakatulo ng laway. yung isa sa road tabi lang ng kerb nakapark. it sells here in sydney for au$400,00
just curious, i went to nissan website phils bakit suv and van lang ang nandun. i didn't see any cars that they are offering.
the almighty fairlady 350z got's race history unlike the z4 or the boxster's short race flicks. the 70-80's era fairlady z are famous for beating the porshe or should i say "poor-sche" in the race track, hehe.... i'm a big fan of the car and my dad owns a mint condition 1972 fairlady 240zg, it was rather cheap at that time when he bought it. And yes, 3m pesos is TOO MUCH!~ the 350z is designed as a middle class 2 door sportscar, try looking for the usdm or jdm prices. philippine taxes on these type of cars are rather stratospheric!
pero my attitude is borne out of the fact that i can't afford any car above a million pesos

I'd take the Z any day... For me, the Evo, no matter how excellent its performance is, still looks like a Lancer. It doesn't even dominate in the Rallye circuit... Subaru's WRX is just as good, if not better and has been tagged "best car under $30K" by countless of sources. Never liked the Evo, probably never will...
For the untrained eye, the Evo is just another Lancer. Why spend 2M more for something that only a handful can distinguish it as a distinctive car.
I don't think cars of this price range can be compared by specsheet to value amount alone. Sport cars are sold through their image, history, and "wow" factor...
If performance is the only factor, people will be buying Evos instead of 911's since performance wise, it's quite close. But you'll hardly see a person trading their old Porsche's for a new Evo. I won't hehe...
The Z matches a Boxster S performance in almost any aspect, the latter costs almost 1M more...
I guess this thread is so hypothetical coz I don't have the dough to get any one of those hehehe.
just image all the pogi point that you'll get driving that around around rockwell or libis... :car:
plus if you are after long-term ownership, the Z is definitely the way to go... just look at the old datsun 240Z... it still looks good even after all these years...
and as theveed said, an evolution just looks like a souped up lancer... only a car enthusiast can differentiate it... and with the new lancer (with the new mitsu corporate nose), i bet that it'll just be a matter of time before you see those with evo8 bodykits...
and as i've read somewhere, once the rpm drops below 4000 - you start that it is just a plain lancer...
and for P2.5M now, it just even gets better!!! at least the price is a bit more reasonable...
