Hi guys! Happy new year to all!

I am having problems with my sentra s3 super saloon, what happens is this, when I cold start it, usually the 3 lights (oil pressure, check lights and batt light) lights up and when you turn the key to start the engine all of them disappears, apparently the oil pressure light (the one after the handbrake ((0)) light) remains on for like 5-10 seconds and then disappears.

When I check the engine oil, it's still on the normal range (just below the H sign on the dipstick)

I dont know what causes this to happen or is it even normal?:praning:

    Thanks for your replies!

    kurby,
sounds like it is taking longer than usual pressurizing the lubrication system or the oil drains back to the sump while parked. try changing the oil and the filter. use a filter with a built-in check valve

this is normal. The reason why it's lit remains on for 5-10 sec. &then disappear, the oil in your vehicle has not yet attained the required pressure to open the oil pressure switch. Now if the oil pressure light will not disappear, kindly check 1. Oil level 2. Oil pressure switch(N.C. position).
    3. if numbers 1 & 2 are OK your vehicle might have a problem in the oil pump.

ano bang oil viscosity ang gamit mo baka mas mababa kaysa manufacturer recommended kaya matagal magdeveloped ng pressure?

imho, medyo matagal ata kung 5-10 seconds ah. should be max 2 seconds. kung hindi tumataas ang oil agad baka masira ang engine kung aabutin ng 10 seconds.

yup, medyo nag bago na sya ngayon mag mula nung napilatan yung front oil seal. pag start mga 1 second nalang bago mawala minsan sabay na sila dun sa check light at charge light. next oil change ko will be * 229,333km nagyon eh 228,089kms na sya so i still have 1,244kms to run before the next change oil. hehehe!

Yep, I'll make sure to check if it's due for oil change.

    Thanks!

    I'll post any developments.

When did it start to be like this? Do you park the car in a slopping location?
Oil leaks lately? Mileage? Engine wash lately? When did you last changed oil? Did it become like this because weather is much cooler lately?

I would start by checking pressure switch connections.

Thanks for all your replies, anyways the car started to act like this last December I'm not sure of the exact date however it's just recent because before when i start the car all of the lights go off simultaneously.

The car is parked on a level location just in front of our house our supposedly garage cannot accommodate the car anymore.

Oil leaks, yes. I had it engine washed last December because I noticed that when I park somewhere I get oil marks underneath. Now when I had it washed the mechanic told me that It was the front and rear oil seal and I'm planning to have it fixed later this month after the registration (Plate # ends with 1).

Mileage is more or less 231333kms (that's my next scheduled change oil), last change oil was 9/7/2009 when it has 226333kms on it.

Before having it cleaned (engine wash) we had a little inspection on where the leaks may come from and the mechanic told me that the oil sending unit is full of sludge (yung namuong langis), but his not sure if it really comes from it. He told me that usually leaks from the front oil seal go to some places because the pulley is spinning so it depends on the trajectory of the oil leak.

ano bang oil viscosity ang gamit mo baka mas mababa kaysa manufacturer recommended kaya matagal magdeveloped ng pressure?

    * sir raine:

    Thanks for the replies!

I'll follow your advice on change oil schedule.

Thanks!

Ako naman ngayon ang nagkaproblema. My engine is 4D56T..kahapon lang e nagfflicker ung oil pressure light. kapag nirebolusyon e nawawala at kapag hindi inapakan ang accel pedal e nago-"on" ung warning light ng oil pressure. nangyari na ito dati last june 2009 i think but due to low oil levels.
Pero ngayon iba naman. ok naman ang oil level. i'm using delo gold 15W-30.
Last oct 2009 eto mga pinagawa ko:
    1. change cyl head gasket
    2. change valve seal
    3. cyl head grinding
    4. change oil and filter

    1. sending unit baka defective
    3. worn engine bearings (crank and cam)

Sa mga nakaexperience nito kindly share naman. it would be a great help at least i have some ideas bago ko ipaconfine ang pipip ko. thanks a lot mga sir!

this is probably normal. it simply means all the oil drained down to the sump. it takes a few seconds for the oil pump to get the oil pumped up again. start worrying if the light refuses to go out, or turns on after the engine warms up.

No need to worry as long as you have the right amount of oil on your engine. The oil pressure also light up steady when you have a low level of oil in your engine.

Help! oil Pressure light remains on!!!
