August 22nd, 2009 09:58 PM #1hi guys, i have questions and issues about ex taxi units... i know for a fact that ex taxi units are overused and not practical way to buy a car... but given the following scenarios can you help me answer some of my questions...
1. is it always the case that an ex taxi units will be a pain in the ass.. a no brainer... a dose of your own medicine.. talaga bang wala na out there n pwede ka mabili na extaxi na ginamit lang as hotel service na inalagaan naman or personal use ng may ari (business) n pwede pa naman magamit as private ng isang taong kulang talaga ang budget pero gusto maka kotse..
2. i will only run 5x a week 12kms per day (balikan na yon) muntinlupa to alabang only) talaga bang titirik siya kahit ganito lang ang gamit everyday..
3. yes i am aware of the usual wear and tear of cars but for extaxi talaga bang gagastos ka ng libo libo just to maintain it pag privat use na... what if you only have 50k and dreaming of driving your own car.. hindi ba pwede na pagawa mo yun car p unti unit every payday pa isa isa...
4. i always see the nissan lec offered for 30 to 50k running condition good aircon etc etc..with minor repair needed... is this really hopeless. what if in my case i really want to learn how to drive and this is the only best option for me.. talagang bang hopeless case and extaxi...
dami ko na tanong hope experts will find time to reply to my message, siguro gusto ko lang gumaling mag drive at hindi ko kakayanin na magbayad ng malaking cash, the best option for me is to maintain and save an amount every payday for the restoration and maintenance of the car.. thanks ulit for the nissan forum and thanks in advance sa mga nag reply..

6.paper works( for dropping,may kaso,transfer of names).
7.sira sira dashboard.

Ako, simple lang.... unless budget is a MAJOR concern and you want a reliable vehicle, then that's the time you consider (not that i didn't purchase) an ex-taxi unit.
Other than what was already mentioned, these units are always in a "rush"... in the attempt to get as many passengers in a day, so the unit is prone to accidents, minor and major. And since these are avoided by insurance companies, likely pukpok lang ginagawa sa mga eto when damaged.
Di naman lahat ng ex-taxi bugbog.... but i must warn you, just a small percentage are in this group. It's likely when it's owner-driven (who does not smoke and is hygene-conscious) metro based, limited route coverage and laging sa paved roads lang dumadaan. Short of saying, a "dream" scenario.
I would rather suggest you to be on a lookout for a private unit. Even if slightly more expensive during acquisition, baka mas mahal pa magagastos mo when you get an ex-taxi unit.
Good luck!

August 23rd, 2009 01:20 AM #5i can write you a long litany of why you should not entertain thoughts of buying an ex-taxi for personal driving pleasure. but i will summarize my knowledge on the matter in two statements:
1. whatever apprehensions you have at owning an ex-taxi, in actuality, it is worse than you can imagine. "your worst nightmare", 'ani rambo.
2. the only reason i will ever buy an ex-taxi again, is if it were given to me for free. then, i would sell it piecemeal or por kilo.

Kasi mahirap bumili ng car w/ your budget of 50k.
Kung iniisip mo, every payday mo papa-ayos. Di yan enough, since you'd think about these after:
1. Every payday, you'd rather spend your money on gas
2. Waste of time on fixing the car. (Pag kelangan mo, AY! nasa shop)
3. Fixing your car piece meal won't work.
4. Pag-itirik ka at na-Tow. 1,200 ang tubos
Hence, ipon ka pa to 150k, then Bank loan ka ng 50k. At 200k, you'd have better choices. Wag madaliin ang purchase ng car, eto ang 2nd biggest purchase of your life. 1st is your House.

pangit na pintura (hilamos pag wala pera-12k-24k, strip to metal pag may pera 26K-35K).

August 23rd, 2009 08:57 PM #10So there's a car you can buy for around PhP30k...prepare another PhP100k to avoid future headaches. Or you can sell it for half the price (no one would buy it at the price you've bought it) after you've had enough of despair with that car.
It's better to buy a decent 10-12 year old privately-owned Sentra or Lancer for the same price as a fully-restored ex-taxi. Give yourself a favor and buy a car that you'll enjoy...
