These are common to carb-run engines. It's just that the colder the surrounding is, the harder it starts. And unlike fuel-injected vehicles, you need to "heat up" the vehicle before use.
As for the tune-up, a good technician would be able to determine if the spark plugs "cleanable/adjustable" or would require replacement. Yes, a beat-up spark plugs can be a factor to hard starts.
Good luck!

July 19th, 2009 07:23 PM #4if your valve lifters are oil-dependent, then the long-standing non-use may have caused the oil to bleed out. in this case, there is nothing you can do except to keep cranking until the oil pressure gets "normal".
another reason for hard starting after a long period of non-use is, the fuel in the carburetor (or one of its passageways) dries up. this can be remedied by directly injecting fuel into the throat, or by cranking the engine until the carb gets filled up again.
a third possibility is, your cylinders are already loose compression and will need to be fixed in the near future.
how to avoid cold start problems? don't turn off your engine at night. heh heh. joke joke. sorry.
Kwento ng katrabaho ko, meron daw sya officemate dati na Italiano na tinanong daw bakit...
