Mitsubishi did lower the price of the locally assembled Lancer EX GT-A CVT, it used to be P1.375M and its now P1.295M.

The base Sentra 200 M/T would have been more acceptable if they at least gave it alloy wheels and ABS.

thanks for that bit about the lancer

    back to the sentra...

    see this website: http://www.nissanusa.com/sentra/specifications.html

note the leftmost specs, that's the 6spd MT.

    1)no ABS, no EBD (!!!)

2)and the CD player... is really just a cd player. no support for MP3/WMA format.

3)the EPA fuel economy isn't even that quite impressive for the base model.

    24/31 mpg or
    10 km/liter city
    13 km/liter highway

    the CVT has 26/34mpg
    or 11.5 km/li city
    14 km/li highway.

the cruze already *claims* higher figures.. (note the asterisks. nothing really compares to real-world conditions)

4)in fairness to NMPI, it seems eggman is right that they'll eventually fit the base model with alloys, according to their website's specifications.

thing is, the base models for the other respective car companies are:
    focus comes at around 760k,
    the cruze, 810k,
    the civic, 860k,
    the altis, 784k.
    the lancer EX, 990k

even if the price is lowered by a hundred grand, to 950k for the base model, it still comes out as under-equipped compared to the cheaper competition.

They will add new variants(1.8 liter variant is in the pipeline) and and lower the prices of course of the new Sentra once magsimula ang local assembly later this year.

Temporary lang ang importation at sales ng CBU units..They want to bring a CBU M/T variant na same specs sa CVT variant(with alloy rims, etc) but its priced at 1.1M Pesos daw.

The Cruze is just a 1.8 liter car but its performance and acceleration is not so good at all(1.6 liter variant is much worse!),no wonder its getting bad reviews at European car magazines last year.If only TCCCI-GM Phils could bring here the 1.4 Turbo variant ng Cruze but then again that would be very pricey.

I'd rather pick the locally assembled M/T Sentra(most likely priced at 870-900K) over the aging Focus Trend IMHO.

If the locally assembled M/T Sentra is going to be priced really at 870 - 900K then it is really a good alternative for the Focus, which is to the fact veryyy feature packed.

I went to Ford Edsa before and looked at their base focus and the SA showed all the Focus' features inside the showroom.

So if the base sentra will be really priced at 870 - 900K with all the features included ( ABS, EBD, foglights, ALLOY RIMS etc. etc. ) then good. But if they wont, forget it.

unlikely that the M/T will ever be equipped with the aforementioned safety kit. even the US-spec doesn't have them.

well, based on sales data, the car to beat is still the altis and civic.

    OT:
*eggman and renzo: the petrol focus is really bang-for-buck (was one of our last considerations before going after the mz2), especially after all the discounts and freebies. Nifty stuff too, like the rear a/c vents, great NVH and peppy handling. Also has a ton of other stuff that the sentra 200 M/T doesn't have, like rear discs, ABS, EBD, etc. etc. Didn't feel underpowered while tottering in the city as well, even if it was heavy and the output was lower than that of the cruze and city.

There were a couple of things, though, that made us choose the smaller car - the black/beige combination in the interior wasn't particularly great, no A/T sedan at the time (and the hatch, with its small compartment was out of budget, well, kahit pala yung A/T sedan wala rin sa budget. hehe.), the aux-in was in a rather awkward place, and the rear cupholders could've been dispensed with (it's not pleasant for a 3rd rear passenger).

still feels like the "one that got away".

doc scharn : Why didn't you opt for the white color ? The beige interior really blends well with white.

That 2010 Sentra will never be an Altis or a Civic killer. Cruze, probably it will be ... but the other 2 that was mentioned, nah.

You mean the aging locally assembled Sentra over the aging locally assembled Focus? Your wording is suspiciously selective there...

The Sentra is the only "compact" I've seen that potentially has less rear seat hip room than the Focus. Which isn't a good thing.

The Trend may have a crappy interior, but the C-Platform is lightyears better than Nissan's compact platform. And the Cruze is supposedly better (in some ways... in some ways, not as good) than the C-Platform Focus... though I'll believe it when I see it... and the Civic is still more spacious than all of them, quieter and more fuel-efficient than most, and about 100 kilos lighter... and is one of the few cars that drives nearly as well as the Focus... and that's a car that was released four years ago.

And it still looks damn good.

Personally, the Focus hatchback still tugs at my heart more, but the I'll acknowledge that the Civic is an excellent car, and deserves its sales success.

sp true... lancer ex gls (P920K) already have abs brakes, cd/mp3 with aux-in headunit, alloy wheels, cvt tranny. And interior is more spacious too.

    Launch article up:

    Some images:

Cabin space on the small side, boot makes up for it.

Lots of crush space, Engine set well back in engine bay. Worry is the bespoke battery, which looks expensive, but the battery tray looks big enough... oh... for a 1SM...

One niggle... launch unit's air intake snorkel tube isn't tightly fit... tried jiggling it... both pieces are screwed in properly and won't budge, but they don't fit... might be an issue just with this unit, but I'd hate to be the first person to drive this car through knee deep flood.

Too bad elections are almost here... great place to hide guns...

*eggman: where are you getting the figures? 870-900k ang magiging price ng base model sentra pag dito na ang production?

*niky: I think eggman meant the soon-to-be-assembled-in-the-Philippines Sentra 200...

Smaller rear room than that of the focus? nuts. The ford already feels somewhat *snug* at the rear compared to the cruze, altis and civic.

if people and financing weren't considerations, we would've gotten the focus.

*sir renzo: if we did get the ford, it would've been in that dark red color. 2 votes out of 3 e. (hindi lang ako yung mahilig sa pula sa amin) but as it stands, there's a lipstick red subcompact in the garage

What he hinted at was that the Focus is an "aging" platform... but the Focus platform is only 2 years older than the Sentra platform... and has just undergone a major facelift, that includes many mechanical revisions.

I could be wrong, though, long time since I sat in a Focus... but it is snug... it's definitely smaller than my Lynx.

Niky : I couldn't imagine the rear legroom of the sentra being smaller than the Focus. I found the rear legroom of the Focus tight already when I sat on one.

Uhm. The Sentra in the picture that you posted iss ... the TOTL variant ? Or is it the base ?

Pangit nung sentra. Dapat yung cube ang nilabas.

Yung cube konti pa lang makakalaban dito sa pinas. Jimny and soul pa lang. Sigurado panalo panalo cube.

Sa sentra nagpapatawa ba nissan. Nanjan na civic, mazda 3, focus, altis....etc

    a pre-facelift TDCi?

aging or not, the Ford C-platform still offers great handling! I wish I could drive one again

maybe the front seats were just quite set a bit back in the pictures? as it seems mukhang maliit nga yung rear space

*renzo: what makes a car look USDM? hehe (personally I like euro cars more)
