    What happened to Mitsubishi Lancer!?
From 97-99, IMO Mitsubishi is still head to head with Toyota and Honda on this category in terms of sales. Starting 2001, I've noticed that Lancer is way behind Altis and Civic. Is it the quality, marketing strategy or both? What are your thoughts fellows? This might even help Lancer.

Quality and Marketing with more emphasis on marketing. I used to have a Pizza lancer and pinaka sakit nyan is the suspension. Para di talaga built to last a long time after a few years maingay na sya if you hit humps and potholes.

ang tagal kasi magpalit ng model ng mitsu. tapos yung model after the pizza pie was boring and again, sobrang tagal bago maglaunch ng bago. it was also the era na halos nabankrupt ang mitsu because of various scandals. just recently lang sila may signs of revival with the new models, particularly the SUVs (pajero, outlander, endeavor, etc). hopefully yung bagong lancer e makakabuhay sa kanila lalo.

para sakin, yung talagang nagdala ng downfall ng lancer is the very poor suspensionand the servo break downs. yung mga 90's ok pa naman lancer. we had the itlog version... ok performance niya, no complaints really.

then came the pizza lancer na nagkaroon ng maraming issues sa suspension, kaya nawalan ng gana mga tao bumili. up to the early 2000, still main prob is the suspension kaya bumababa ang resale because of the high maintenance cost.

no offense to the lancer owners. :peace:

    just my 2 cents...

Redemption would seem to be very hard for Lancer, ang hirap talaga pag nasira ka. IMO even if they make any improvement on their suspension, a lot would still be hesitant.

Even the Koreans meron paring mga old reputations na di mtangal tangal sa isipan ng mga pinoy kaya even though maganda na Korean cars many still feel they are 2nd rate compared to Japanese cars thats why their resale is not as good.

pero i would agree on the impression. masira ka lang once, sira ka na ng tuluyan. i would also agree on nissan. even though its a nice car, affected pa din sila ng past experiences nila. pero in other countries like the US, there are lots of nissans daw. in fact, my mom and dad just came in from NY last saturday, ang dami daw nissans dun, more than hondas.

    Re-posts from another forum (http://www.mitsulancerph.org):

Pag may pelikula noon na pogi ang bida, boxtype/Colt, Celeste or Galant ang oto niya. Paglabas ng singkit, eto ang company car ng Meralco. Yung doktor namin dati na sa London pa nag-aral, terno kami ng itlog. Itlog became the best selling sedan from 94 to 95.

Then the pizza naman sumabay siya sa kasikatan ni Tommi Makkinen sa WRC.

Sumikat rin yung GSR for being a very affordable but reliable coupe.

Then dumating yung Asian financial crisis of 1997. Bagsak lahat ng negosyo. Apektado ang automobile industry of course. The models they released were great like the late pizzas, Cedia and snub nose but napakarami ng competition. Full blown na rito yung Civic by that time. Hyundai and Kia tumino na rin.

    Other notes:

    1) pricing of Mitsu's can't be very competitive because of the higher manufacturing costs they have compared to other brands. take the mitsu colt for example, they couldn't launch it here because the vehicle was originally intended for the euro market so, manufacturing was done at euro factories. when they saw the need to launch the product here in asia-pacific, they had some challenges in preparing the Thailand factory to produce the colt. this led to lost sales opportunities and the second issue which is,

    2) timing - mitsubishi frequently lags other manufacturers when coming up with innovative and competitive product portfolios. just look at the following:

-they launched the evo after subaru distributed the impreza locally.
-they launched the outlander after the CRV had dominated the market.
-they launched the grandis after kia, chevrolet, toyota, etc.. have led the mini-van market..
-the more glaring example is how toyota came up with the Tamaraw series and the Adventure just followed in its footsteps...
now the market clamors for sub-compacts but it looks like mitsu cannot launch their sub-compact due to manufacturing costs.. nauna pa ang Chery...

let's just do what we can to support Mitsubishi in whatever way we can (thru launches, events, promos, etc.) and pray that they can get their act together internally before it's too late...

Don't forget, also, that Mitsubishi was teetering at the edge of oblivion a while back. Problems with reliability and the infamous cover-up scandal (locally, the most anyone ever heard of it was one man's crusade against Mitsubishi over his "lemon" Pajero) dropped Mitsu's stock, both financially and reputation-wise, to an all-time-low.

Our local Mitsubishi still isn't feeling the benefits of Mitsubishi's recent turnaround (they started turning a profit two years ago)... and the dealership structure, both in terms of sales and service is still in disarray. Heck, I've heard that Mitsubishi has trouble claiming insurance with their in-house provider... (this is after my cousin waited MONTHS for his insurance claim with their in-house to push through)... when that's the same provider as for Ford... and when you go in-house through Ford... even with just an affidavit, you can get a claim! From the exact same provider! That indicates, really, poor corporate relations and poor management.

They can fight back, but it will take a hell of a lot of time. Mitsubishi's ASEAN foothold is precarious... the only bright spots being the Outlander and the Strada. It's sales woes that's keeping us from getting the new Lancer, as the old Lancer is overstocked and undersold.

Give it time. But unfortunately, for Mitsubishi, Filipinos have awfully long memories, and the gossip and whispers about Mitsu's sad state will hurt them decades into the future... just as it has done with Nissan, with Mazda and with the Koreans. Pinoys don't like giving people second chances, really.

Which makes it weird that convicted felons get elected to office... whoops.

in never liked the pizza and itlog lancers. Ang panget ng pagkagawa ng suspension just like our nissan sentra yung early 90s model. I still use a box type now kasi ang reliable nya tapos mura pa parts. Ok naman korean cars I think its image is improving in the Philippines.

Tsaka yun nga rin konti lang ng mitsubishi models dito , they rarely release new affordable models such as the Colt and sana yung new Delica. The philippine mitsubishi factory is getting slower when the production of lancer ceased a few years ago and we started importing from thailand. Tapos nandyan pa yung next lancer which they will import from japan. Mataas costs unlike toyota which has a local factory here.

Anyway, the upcoming lancer will be a good fresh start for Mitsubishi to redefine its image.
