Zix Performance - Busted gen3 turbo due to oem air filter... | Facebook

Unless there's a good reason why the owner didn't or couldn't claim warranty, I think this Zix is taking advantage of the situation.

Hard to tell. It might've been caused by some mods. If boost was increased, the stock filter might not have the capacity to flow enough air.

I've also seen busted turbos from other stock cars. Given the few number of units with turbo complaints, I'd say those were likely from driver abuse.

There's also the possibility the oem filter isn't up to snuff.

I'm also against those free flow filters as they sandpaper your engine and with the oiled ones there's always the possibility of depositing oil on your MAF sensor.

Bad filter design then. Not enough reinforcement to prevent the filter media from collapsing under load.

A cylindrical filter would've been much better. Most even have a screen to prevent the filter media from being sucked in.

that filter looks like it was washed then installed while still damp. kaya nag-cave in kasi the water acted to block the flow of air then the paper collapsed and probably parts of it went into the turbo.

always dry your filter after washing. then inspect before installing.

I think no. As most oem air filters are not washable
