There are really no year by year changes within generations. The units pretty much stay the same.
'88 saw the introduction of turbo power
'98 saw the introduction of the GEN II Field Master (a rare stopgap model). It was a GEN II but with leather seats, Field Master badging, and additional exterior color choices (including brown, and the purple shade).
GEN II.5's were all Field Masters and had a limited model with Ralliart rims, GPS, etc. Most of the stuff became standard on later models anyway so it's not really what I'd call limited.
'05 GEN III's had HID, 17" rims, bumper taillamps, revised tirecover, AVT entertainment system, etc. But it was still the same basic vehicle.
The GEN III.5 was recently launched worldwide. But is not available yet.

January 4th, 2007 12:36 AM #6thanks so much...i understand better now...thnx.....
now, my next worry is that, for example the gen2 ('95-'98) units......some sellers/vendors are putting 1998 tag on their units but actually its 97 model....how can i get rid on this typ of panloloko .....
and also some tips na dn in buying 2nd hand gen2 or gen2.5 pajeros.....kung ano sana yung dapat check tlga......yung 96 model pajero ba is ok pa dn 2 buy considering more or less 10years old na to and gagamitin ko pa ng mas matagal pa.......or better to buy yung mga gen2.5 '99 model na.... or other SUVs na '99 and up model na......
thanks.....

A difference of one year is not really significant since there were practically no changes. Just check the OR/CR. Vehicles sold near the end of the year are usually advertised as one model year younger. The seatbelt tags will usually be of the same model year or one year earlier. But it will give you a rough idea on the true age of the vehicle.
Try to do a search on the Pajero threads. It's always nice to get the newest unit you can afford. However, the unavailability of 4wd on '00-up Field Masters can limit some buyers to earlier models.
Better test drive a unit first. The lack of engine power of the 4d56 can take some getting used to if you are coming from a car.

especially yung 1996 and 1999 model...thanks....

Yep, '99 and some '00 models are still 4x4. It's pretty easy to distinguish the 4x4 from the 4x2, just look for the 2nd shifter.
