October 9th, 2009 11:14 AM #7131Hello there, new monty owner here. I like this site, very informative..
It’s my first time to own a Mitsubishi vehicle. I’m not sure if this question has already been discussed but does the monty require a “break-in” period? Is there a factory suggested procedure on how to do this particularly on turbo charged engines?
I’m just curious because many a time I see convoys of new vehicles, Mitsubishi included, being driven at breakneck speed early in the morning along south super hiway going to Manila maybe to be delivered to new owners or just being transported to casa. Obviously , speed (engine RPM) in not amongst their concern..
Thanks in advance..

Welcome and Congrats on your new ride sir! please do include yourself in our owner's list located a couple of pages back
With regards to your question, there is a constant debate between "breaking in" the engine or just drive it like any other normal car as the factory already did the break in... drive it slow or fast

The driving of brand new units at 'breakneck speeds' has been in practice as far back as the 80's when Mitsubishi drivers gun it in a 7 to 10 car convoy to deter would be carnappers or 'harang' groups that may intercept them.
I was able to talk with one of them before when we had the delivery of our Gen 1 Pajero before. The order was for them not to stop for anything while maintaining radio contact within the convoy while being on the look out from the back as well as the sides and report if there is anything unusual. Kung may haharang daw, they are instructed to ram through it - better to repair a unit or two rather than lose the whole convoy.
With the new technology engines we have today, it would be very difficult for one to damage a brand new engine because of improper break-in.
Sir mic_21_ph is right. Just drive it as you normally would.Last edited by Memphis Raines; October 9th, 2009 at 02:32 PM.

A relative of mine in Canada had his Scion FR-S PPF'd and then had it ceramic coated. He says it's...
