Nice.... based on the engine and form... a Strada-based SUV...most likely to replace the ageing Montero Sport....hopefully the price would be in the 1.5-1.8M range.

Fortuner-killer? depends on the price....

Wake up call for Isuzu....i think the Alterra cannot compete with this.

front looks like an outie, and the back a fuzion. maganda rin, but let's see it in the actual. looks promising though to slice the market share of fortuner and alterra.

My sentiments exactly. At least they relocated the spare tire and improved rear visibility.

Mas maganda pa nga yung headlights ng Strada eh. The problem with the Pajero Sport's headlights is that Mitsubishi had to make room for the HIDs.

Although the post above did not fully gave the vehicle specification....I don't think this will replace the current-gen Pajero but rather as a stand-in to the antiquated Montero Sport.

It is my belief that the Pajero in its current make (large, modern, with substantial in-car amenities, luxury-trim) will go against the Toyota Prado from the marketing point.

The soon-to-be introduced Pajero Sport will go against the Fortuner, Alterra, and Everest as a pick-up based SUV. And probably price-wise also against the Sorento and Sta. Fe.

With these, can we foresee the demise (i.e. phase-out) of the venerable Pajero Fieldmaster?

Paging MMPC insiders....kindly enlightened us.

^^^ Gerbo- di po ako taga MMPC. but IMHO, what you have said is TRUE.

i still believe that MMPC may have the possibility of using the Pajero/Montero Sport name - but it could be possible that the Montero Sport name will be used. Knowing Mitsubishi, they like to use tried and tested names to make products sell like the Lancer, Galant and the Pajero. This will become the 2nd Generation Montero Sport.

The current Pajero 3.2 and 3.8 will compete with the likes of the Prado, Expedition, Patrol. with the Montero/Pajero Sport, this will give Mitsubishi the stance to directly compete with the Fortuner (take note: a facelift is on the way!), Alterra (the Thai MU) and the Everest.

This will not be in conflict with the 2.4 and 3.0 Outlander since it is Gas powered and it is compact. It will be available for those who want something car-based. It will also be something Mitsubishi can offer 2.7 Gas Fortuner buyers since i presume the Pajero/Montero Sport with be only available with the 3.2 and the 2.5 DI-D CRDI TDiC engines. If they still want more beef, the US-based Endeavor 3.8 LE is the choice (4x2 nga lang). Once the Specifications (Body dimensions) is released, i will compare which among the 2 is bigger/smaller- Montero/Pajero Sport or the Endeavor?

Prepare to kiss The Pajero 2.8 Field Master good bye. it has served MMPC well since 1994. With the influx of new models coming in, it is best for MMPC to cease its production to prevent conflicts in pricing and product offering redundancy. The (current) Strada's 136hp 2.5 4D56 with D-ID CRDi TDiC DOHC 16V is more powerful than the outgoing 125hp 2.8 4M40 TDIC to pull a heavy body! Moving onward, the future is now!

Here is the bottomline: This is what we have been waiting for. 2007-2008 has been a lot for MMPC to revamp its lineup and it may seem to be paying dividends. They are bullish in getting themselves to reclaim the #2 spot from Honda (it would have been better if Fuzion had the CRDi Di-D engine- they would have claimed it earlier!) Again, We have waited for a long time for this to come! Finally! Here! Now!

BTW, there is also a press release of this SUV at the MMC site- according to the PR, it will also be available with the 3.5 V6 engine- im not too keen on that- sa Outie 3.0 V6 nalang ako!

Suggestion to the Tsikot/Mitsubishi Mods: maybe we can merge the thread "Mitsubishi New Montero Sport/Triton G-Wagon/Strada G-Wagon" with THIS thread. thanks.

I think this thread should be merged with the strada/g-wagon thread here somewhere. As the hilux is to the fortuner, dmax to the alterra, the front of this suv is just a slightly modified strada (minor change to the headlights, grill)

Gusto ko pagsamahin ang interior and riding comfort of Sta. Fe, 3.2 DiD toughness of the Pajero and the 4X4 ability of the Everest inside the body of ’08 Fortuner hehehe.

i guess 1.6-1.9M ang price range nito. hmmmmm.... wala nang mura ngayon

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation will unveil its new Pajero Sport SUV model at the Moscow Auto Salon 2008 (The Moscow Motor Show) to be held at the Crocus Expo in Moscow between August 26 and September 7 (opens to the public on August 29). The New Pajero Sport will be phased in selected regions such as Russia, the ASEAN area, the Middle East, Latin America and Oceania starting in the fall this year.

*1 The model will carry a different name in different markets: Montero Sport in South America, Nativa in Latin America and Challenger in Australia.
*2 The new Pajero Sport will neither be sold in Central & Western Europe nor in North America, where other types of SUVs are favored.

The New Pajero Sport features dynamic and sporty exterior lines, complemented by a stylish and vast interior space that engenders a sense of comfort, purpose and safety. This cabin, available in either a 2-row (5-passenger) or 3-row (7-passenger) seating configuration is also very practical with water-repellent seats and a waterproof luggage compartment floor, ideal for leisure use.

Mitsubishi’s Latest SUV will be powered by a choice of three engines which all deliver outstanding motive performance and fuel economy: 2.5-liter and 3.2-liter Common Rail Direct Injection Diesel units and a 3.5-liter V6 Gasoline uni.

In terms of architecture, the body of the Pajero Sport is mounted on a New Ladder Frame to realize high levels of durability and reliability, consistent with the needs of its target markets.

Mitsubishi’s All Wheel Control philosophy, forged through its participation in the Dakar Rally and other contests, informs all of the company’s 4WD systems. The new model will use the Super Select 4WD System, also used in the Pajero SUV, which transmits drive torque effectively to all four wheels on all types of surface. The body, frame and driveline not only give Pajero Sport outstanding off-road performance but allow it to deliver excellent drive dynamics over all surfaces.

The choice of the Moscow Motor Show to unveil the new Pajero Sport is a clear indication of Russia’s eminent position within Mitsubishi Motors. In fiscal 2007 Mitsubishi Motors sold some 100,000 vehicles on the Russian market, boosted by the ever successful Lancer line-up and a popular range of SUVs.

MMC is confident that the new Pajero Sport SUV will make a strong addition to its SUV range, which also includes the Pajero and Outlander. Coming on the heels of the introduction of the Lancer sports sedan last year, this will allow MMC to expand SUV sales and hit a total sales volume of 140,000 units on the Russian market in fiscal 2008.

*3 Russian-spec vehicle will only be available with the 3.2-liter diesel engine and 2-row, 5-passenger capacity seating arrangement.
*4 “Montero” in Spanish-speaking countries and “Shogun" in the UK.
*5 Galant Fortis in Japan.

MMC will hold its Press Briefing at the Mitsubishi Motors stand at 17:20 on Tuesday August 26.

The new 2008 2009 Mitsubishi Montero Sport looks great. On the outside, the 2008 2009 Montero Sport comes standard with alloy wheels, skid plates for its four-wheel-drive transfer case, a chrome grille, tow hooks, intermittent rear window-wiper, tinted glass, and mudguards.

On the inside, Montero Sport includes such amenities as a leather-wrapped steering wheel, power windows, air conditioning, cruise control, three 12-volt outlets, optional power sunroof, and a height-adjustable steering column.

Mitsubishi Montero Sport models boast 10-way adjustable driver's seats, six-way adjustable front passenger seats, 140-watt stereo systems, and a number of tie-down hooks in the cargo areas. To complete our Mitsubishi Montero Sport review, we'd be remiss in mentioning the available accessories, such as a nose mask, fender flares, and roof rails, to name a few.

At the heart of all of the 2008 2009 Mitsubishi Montero Sport models is an engine that means business and doesn't play around. Standard on the Mitsubishi Montero Sport ES and 2008 2009 LS models, you'll find a 3.0-liter, cast-iron, SOHC 24-valve V-6 engine that delivers 165 horsepower at 5,250 and 186 pounds-per-foot of torque at 4,000 rpm. With the XLS and Limited models, you'll find a 3.5-liter, cast-iron, SOHC 24-valve V-6 engine that delivers 197 horsepower at 5,000 and 223 pounds-per-foot of torque at 3,500 rpm.

Read a bunch of 2008 2009 Mitsubishi Montero Sport reviews and you'll see that Montero Sport performance isn't the only thing critics are talking about. Under the chassis, the Mitsubishi Montero Sport transmission is pretty good, too, and every model comes standard with a four-speed automatic with Adaptive Shift Control. Then, of course, there is the suspension - front independent double-wishbone with torsion bars in the front, and rear solid-axle multi-link with coil springs in the back. All of this is further proof that the new 2008 2009 Mitsubishi Montero Sport is one tough truck.

*jru120 - thanks very much for sharing what you have discovered po... whoever posted that information sa ebay Especially on the press release that you added must be aligned with the current initiatives of MMPC. The data that i see from it is very much relevant to the previous generation US version montero sport (2001/2002). According to the MMC press releases, the Montero Sport will have one gasoline engine to date- 3.5 V6 and the CRDi 3.2 and 2.5 engines have not been emphasized.

looking forward to seeing the real thing.

in the meantime, read this press release from MMC:

Hi, i'm a newbie here and i joined specifically to maybe get feedback or help with the montero. Greetings to all especially to all new Montero Sport owners.

Anyways, i couldn't help myself but to hook up the montero as soon as i got it about 2 weeks ago. But now i'm stuck.. Anybody know how i can lower it? I put on 22" rims, but now the car went up so high that we're even having a hard time climbing in. I spoke to some people but there's no application from H&R.

Mitsubishi tells me that the front suspension is patterned after the past 2 pajero models and the rear is patterned after the older montero.

The rear is not a problem with H&R.. but the front.. there are no lowering springs for the pajero..only a lowering kit (coilovers).. which will be to expensive to get just for the front? anybody have any insight? Please, no "putol" :bwahaha:

any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

pag na reset ko ba accurate parin ang reading?

All it does is it starts the measuring of the fuel consumption again.. if you don't reset, it will give you data from the time you start using your car until you reset it.. So its as if, when you get gas, it would be good to reset it before you go so that it'll start with new data. Rather than an average from the beginning.

Hi guys! haven't logged-on for a while now.
anyways, balak kasi namin bumili ng montero sport. gusto ko lang sana malaman yun gas consumption niya sa city-driving at long drive. and more importantly, matagtag ba siya tulad ng fortuner?
