yup sir. i thought it was made from japan, but when i checked the nameplate on the driver's door pillar, it's thailand. but normally, a car company has several assembly lines; one for each region for a certain model. for us here in asean, it's thailand, philippines and indonesia.
i think all the design works are done in the respective motor company's HQ, with inputs from representative from the local market. while the assembly line's choice of location is dependent on the market it will serve. unfortunately, thailand had beaten us on the competitive labor costs plus (in the past), they have little work issues than us because most of our workforce are unionized.
for the rav4, worldwide, all are coming from japan. but recently a new plant in canada was built and will produce that for the north american market. sa ford naman, proudly philippine made yung escape. sadly, if you have seen the interior, the handbreak was designed for the right-drive variant which are being exported to thailand naman. kaya irritating to look at.
sorry to have this discussion thread under montero...but it's worthy to note these info, i believe.
re rustproof...sa ziebart, 14k plus for the full application. 6k plus for the wheelwell. lifetime warranty and free annual check and re-application if needed. i am seriously considering to have mine rustproofed since workmanship or weld quality underneath is not perfect. you would see traces of rust on the welded joints after few months. but i really hate the messy-oily-asphalt stain underneath. what i did is apply some wax, at least they are sealed for a year. the same principle why we wax the body. i did the same with my other unit, and hindi basta basta kumakapit putik. a simple water hosing will remove the dirt and grimes.
however, mmpc had issued a warranty on their factory rust proofing. but that is co-terminus with the usual 3-yr wty. i supposed, within 3 years ok pa yan, but if you plan to keep it longer, then you may need to apply extra anti-rust protection. secondary function na rin ng rust proof yung sound proofing, but you need to avail of the full underbody coating, 'di lang wheelwell.
Thank you sir, I was not aware MMPC provide 3 year warranty on it.
I plan to have soundproof on my monty, maybe too long dont drive diesel car, do you know any shop can do a good job on soundproofing?
by the way i not philippino, i from Singapore and working in quezon city, hope to make more monty friends....
Thanks for the reply.
I don't think i've ever heard of soundproofing a car, because too much noise reduction would be dangerous as we won't be able to hear the outside noises. But i did have this thing called sound deadening to my doors so that the sound quality of my audio system comes out deeper, that may be one way to put it. But as for soundproofing the car from the engine sound? I'm not aware of that, i did hear though that our montero is one of the more quiet diesel engines compared to others.
If its sound deadning material, if it can help, it would cost quite a lot to do the whole car and a lot of work. If i'm not mistaken, its somewhere between 5-10t for 2 doors, depending on the material/mat used.
As for the meet ups, we're trying hard to set something up, just stay posted and maybe we'll come up with something.
Thanks for the reply.
for soundproofing, i saw it in Sin, one of friend car have it done, is rubber strip just to stick on all door, floor and engine compartment, it really improve allot. if i not wrong, it cost around 800 sin about 25,000 for the whole car, but is a pro job, not easy for DIY.
hope you can keep me posted for the meetup, or maybe can you email me at chng238*singnet.com.sg.....
Thank you very much..![]()
Thanks for reply, where the shop doing sound deadning ? i like to check it up.
As i understand the soundproofing, they use the rubber strip to stick on door, engine compartment and hook, it really can reduce allot of noice. but i cant find it in metro manila.
Hope you can keep me update on the meetup, or if possible drop me a mail at chng238*singnet.com.sg. thanks.
