saw one in green meadows ave. last friday. ganda! didn't expect it to look that good! it sports a euro antenna the same with that of the 2k2 CRV.

i think they're gonna use the 1.8L powerplant to go head to head with the altis 1.8G... i'm not sure on that though.

Two theories emerge in death of actor Thichanon

    Published on Jan 21, 2003

Police have put forward two theories to explain the death of actor Thichanon Nilcham, whose body was found crushed between his car and the metal gate to his home in Nonthaburi on Sunday.

The first theory is that the car was left in reverse, and hit the actor accidentally when he went to open the gate. The second is that another person, perhaps intentionally, backed the car into him before fleeing the scene.

The engine of the car, a Mitusbishi Cedia, was still running after the incident and its automatic transmission was found in reverse gear.

The results of an autopsy showed that Thichanon died as a result of injuries sustained during the impact, including broken ribs, and a punctured lung and spleen.

Pattanadet Arsasuppakit, a car columnist, said the first theory was possible, assuming Thichnon left the car in reverse when he went to open the gate.

Pattanadet said the car might not have moved back immediately, because the engine's idling speed was low and the car's air conditioning system was activated, drawing power from the engine.

After Thichanon left the car to open the gate, the air-conditioning system may have automatically suspended, resulting in an increase in power to the engine, pushing the car backwards towards Tichanon, he said.

Pokkrong Thongrak, public relations manager for MMC Sithipol Co, producer and distributor of Mitsubishi cars, said there were three possible scenarios that might have caused the accident, although the chances of one of them occurring was one in a million.

One possible scenario, Pokkrong said, is that Thichanon put the car in reverse, stepped out of the car and was hit immediately. Second, Thichanon could have put the car in reverse, but failed to fully apply the handbrake, causing the car to move back. The third possibility, said Pokkrong, is that Thichanon did not put the gear stick into the exact position, but between P (park) and R (reverse), or between N (neutral) and R, and the gear slipped into reverse itself.

Thongchai Pansawat, manager of MMC Sithipol's technical department, defended the automatic gear system of the car, saying the company had not received any complaints about the gear system of this model of Mitsubishi.

Pol Lieutenant Banlue Bunpluk of the Traffic Police Division said after inspecting the car that the vehicle's engine and gear system were in normal condition. Police said they would question the manufacturer about this particular model.

Security guards on duty at the housing estate said they had seen the actor's car enter the estate, but they could not tell whether anyone accompanied Thichanon due to the vehicle's tinted windows.
