Montero Sport GLX 2.5 Non-VGT Owners

Hi to everyone,

Im seriously considering a 2014 GLX AT. Im going to test drive it tom. If all goes as planned I'll seal the deal this month.

I actually started to read all the post from page 1 but simply had to stop upon reaching page 22 of this thread. Information overload

I figured I dont need the added power of a GLS model since I seldom go out of town (which could change with this vehicle).. However I do want some of the features like the rear sensors and gps. With that in mind could someone give me an estimate of how much the ff will cost if I get it straight from the dealer. I dont want to void any kind of warranty:

1. back up sensor
2. back up camera
3. gps

Likewise

4. What tint can you recommend. I need something dark for security reasons but still very much visible from the inside I have poor eyesight without my glasses.

Lastly are I read some post about the ff. could someone answer this for me:

5. Does the driver seat have poor lumbar support - I have a really bad back.
6. I noticed some relatively new Montero's emitting black smoke.
7. Is the sudden acceleration thing a real concern ?

1 & 2, agree for Sir dct, pwede nyo po i-ask ang sales agent nyo kung pwede ito makuha as a freebie, kung hindi man, meron discount to install..
3. if ever na makasama sa 1&2 package and include ang SD card with a reasonable price, pwede...if not...pwede po kumuha outside....
4. ask nyo po yung sales agent to choose the tint, papakita naman po yung film sample ng tint sa inyo once na nakapag DP na po and reserved a unit....sa amin po, i choose the 2nd to the darkest..(forgot the code pero 3M tint)
5. seats are very comfortable....(during casa visit and same din po sa strada na na-drive ko dati [non-vgt])
6. Hard reality, madumi po talaga ang Diesel dito sa pinas, pero EGR blanking is considered, kung occasional usage lang, pwede din hindi.
7. I never believe in sudden acceleration, driver's responsibility lalo po kung automatic...
keen observation ko lang po, hindi ko po nilalahat ng matic driver, but some po sa mga gumagamit ng matic, during stop, napansin ko lang, hindi pinapasok sa N-eutral position, and uses only the hand-brake....to temporarily stop the vehicle.
and one of the reason kung bakit nangyayari ang sudden acceleration was the transmission left in D, and once the umusad ang sasakyan then sabayan ng rattle from the driver, instead na preno ang matapakan, accelerator ang natatapakan, and isa rin sa reason yung paglagay ng matting...sometimes sumasabit ang matting sa gas pedal and kailangan bago mag-drive, always check the matting.

for 300% assurance na walang sudden acceleration....kunin nyo po ang MT, dahil no reasons at all kung bakit mag-accelerate pa ang sasakyan....and kayo po mismo ang control and to avoid blame games..

Pang mabigatan yung ecu remapping guys. W/o other mods bonestock papalo ng 220 hp si monty. Too much sakin, hindi ko naman kelangan ng ganung kalakas na gain para pang overtake lang. Sakin satisfied nako sa tuning chip ko as of now, My future mods are fmic upgrade and rai may dagdag angas din pag binuksan yung hood.

I just came from the dealer sadly wala yun test drive unit nila. Nonetheless it was a very helpful visit as I was able to get an accurate price of the eventual accessories I want installed upon release.

Undecided pa ako sa color although as advised by the SA the new color variant is "virgil gray"... Unfortunately again walang unit at Caloocan branch with that color kaya medyo dissappointed was initially thinking of white or cool silver.

* sir beng, our purpose of having performance mod is the additional gain in power output di ba? so as much as possible we need to get more hp with our peso investment. although i have not done remapping yet, but i think a lot cheaper siya and you get more peso/power return. compared sa more expensive na chip(~25k)+fmic(20k)+rai (?k) installations and you get less power output. yun nga lang as you said may "dagdag angas" when one look under your hood and they see some colorful aftermarket parts. but remapping again will keep everything in stock, a stock looking car but so powerful. sleeper look yata tawag ng mga nagmo-mods sa mga ganyan ;) and yet kapag all stock, i think mas madali rin ibenta.

don't get me wrong sir beng, i just stated some pros and cons. we're on the same route actually. meron na akong existing chip and on the way na din from US yung fmic ko hahaha! i'm thinking now to sell them and have a remapping instead. i want my ride to look as stock as possible kasi eh hahaha!

1. try mo Delo 400 or Top1 SDO. you can match it with oil filter like Baldwin BD28 and it can last 10k kms.
2. turbo timer is not a must naman. you can let your car run idle for 2-3 mins paghinto from a long trip and pareho lang naman. but if you like, it's a good protection gadget para sa turbo mo. volution yung brand na nababasa ko na ok daw, may auto function.
3. no idea with the stock alarm. but if still working why change it? if you have budget to spend then go ahead

18k kms lang at out of warranty na monty mo sir? wow! meaning sa 3yrs nakaka 6k kms ka lang a year? low mileage naman sasakyan mo. mine btw is almost 60k kms na going for 2 years. i'll try to reach 100k kms before 3 yrs or whichever comes first ;)

makikisali din pros n cons ng remapping vs. crdi chips (kasi naka chip din ako), plug n play po ang crdi chips with rotary adjustments kung gusto mo pa lakasan ( tapangan ng timpla fuel + air mixture) na a adjust sya 1.5% increment, bukod sa CEL protect, meron din internal protection yun crdi mismo (meron limiter sa loob) so hindi kayang pasabugin ng chip lang, tapos madali alisin pag pupunta ka casa, mejo pricey nga lang, (P15k , P25k, P35k unit price ng RCP) pero sulit na sulit naman pag nag road test ka na, meron ka din option na hinaan ang timpla, nasa youtube how to easily adjust, not sure also kung magkano singilan sa re-mapping, not sure also kung madali ipa re-mapped back to stock kung pupunta ka sa casa..at ibabalik re-map pag galing ka na sa casa, (me bayad kada re-map?) sana ma compare din natin dito..

sir playplug, yung mga diesel chips ay iisa lang function niyan, i alter nila yung voltage signal sa fuel rail pressure sensor para i-trick yung ecu na dagdagan yung fuel pressure o agahan ng delivery. may mga sensors kasi na nagdetermine during combustion kung anong time i-inject yung fuel at certain pressures at nakalink lahat yan sa sa fuel rail pressure sensor. so kapag may chip ka, lalakas ang power kasi i-signal ng chip sa ecu na kulang pa fuel pressure but in fact kung nasa stock ok na. so parang niloloko lang nung chip yung ecu to signal na kulang pa yung fuel pressure. again, may limit yung fuel pressure kada type ng makina, kapag sumobra sa set parameters ng ECU mag-register ng error o check engine light. so hindi ka dapat lalampas sa set parameters ng makina mo.

about ecu remap, they have a software that enable the tuner to change the preset parameters programmed inside the ECU. they are trained specialists and the exclusive and authorized shop to use the software kaya mahal din ang singil nila. you risk of voiding your warranty if in case magkaproblema ang makina at ma-trace ng casa na nasira yung part caused by the remapping. be reminded na ang casa once may masirang part na covered ng warranty, they will always find a way to blame the fault to you both chipping ang remapping ay may risk na ma-void warranty mo. pero depende pa rin sa casa yan, ang dami ng naka chip wala pa naman ako nabalitaan na totally nasira at na void ang warranty. imo, sa remapping naman, as long as it is done professionally and within the limits ng sasakyan at walang problema, di na malalaman ng casa yan. during PMS di naman nila i-check yung ECU kung may binago ba sa parameters

astig po ang kulay ng virgil gray, yun lang po, hintayin pa dumating yung unit from thailand, sana nga po, up to the last minute next week, kung dumating na yung virgil gray, sana yan din ang color na makuha namin.

ang diesel chip sa pagkaka-intindi ko po, as per sir monty_GTV explanation,

para syang "exciter" yung ecu command, eto yung fuel/air mixture ang ibibigay, eto naman si chip, early execution naman ang gagawin....pwede syang i-adust kung advance ba or delay...


kung sa casa naman ang remap, possible talaga sir, at meron silang device na ginagamit, (may mga tropa din sa casa pero ibang brand at best friend ng monty, kumabilang bakod lang ako hehehe )


Last question na lang po mga Sirs?! Not mistaken po, ang mga early diesel engines, kahit walang battery (once na naka-andar na at idle) applicable pa rin ba ito ngayon sa mga modern CRDI?! and if ever na bunutin yung battery?! di ba nakakasama ito sa mga electronics tulad ng ECU/Chips?!

IMHO a remap of the ECU and a piggyback chip has its own advantages and disadvantages. Just Google it and you will see a ton of info. I guess it all boils down to the user.
For ex: Kung concern ka sa warranty mo I guess the piggyback chip is the way to go, but then malalaman ba ng CASA kung na remap yung ECU on their routine PMS?. On the other hand if you don't care about the warranty ek ek (since nagupgrade ka ng kung anu ano) and wants a bang for buck HP increase, as the previous dynos have shown, then the remap is for you. The piggyback however can be transferred to your future or other rigs so parang mas bang for buck ang mga chip?. BTW the tuner also plays a big part (for the user adjustable plug in chip that means the owner) ;)

On another note the stock power of our monty (even the non VGT), I think is more than enough if you need to put the pedal to the metal if you are in a hurry or overtaking in a tight situation. Pero ibang usapan syempre kung nag racing razing ka and some additional HP wont hurt naman if you have the moolah
