September 10th, 2010 06:01 PM #11SG's right. If you have the budget for the GLS SE 4x4 A/T, then go for it. 4x4 really comes in handy in some situations. You'll never know when you'll be in a situation when you will really need the 4x4.

September 11th, 2010 11:29 AM #12the problem is, the casa here in zamboanga doesn't have a montero sport test drive car. i want the 4x2 'coz it's cheaper and we are in the city but there are times that we wouldn't know if we need to go far by land and the road going to ipil and far places here in mindanao are usually bumpy.. i ahev the budget for the 4x4 also but i want to be practical that i won't have to regret in the end.

September 12th, 2010 12:59 AM #14I have the same dilemma like the TS. At first, a friend of mine advised going for the 4x4, using the same reasoning as SG. I was sold on the idea, knowing that I'd love the stronger engine, the more luxurious interiors, and the 4x4 option. However, I live in a Makati condo and don't even go off roading. So another friend of mine (who also lives in Makati and drives a 4x4 Pajero) advised me to go for the 4x2. He said a 4x4 is heavy and unnecessary for city roads. He advised me to use the savings for mods instead. I argued that the 4x2 has a weaker engine, which he countered by saying that speed is not something you look for in a truck. SO now, I am sold with a 4x2 and will get one towards yearend (figured I can still wait a few months and get the 2011 model already).
For my speed fix, I'm also planning to get me a Hyundai GC 3.8 V6 as my daddy car.

September 13th, 2010 05:39 PM #15Actually sir MrGunn and Ma'am TS, my reason why we opted for the 4x4 even though hindi naman lagi kaming nag-ooffroad is that we'll never know na magkakaroon ng sitwasyon na kung saan mapapaisip kami na "sana 4x4 na lang binili namin" if we opted for the 4x2 variant. Not because of the stronger engine. It happened to us before sa Fortuner namin dati. We encountered the "sana 4x4 na lang binili namin" situation. And also, if you buy the 4x4 variant, you will be really happy that you chose it over the 4x2 variant. And also, a 4x4 vehicle provides more traction on wet and slippery roads than 4x2. That's one of the reasons why we opted for the GLS SE. Practicality wise, go for the GLS SE. Pwede namang magmods kahit GLS SE ang binili eh. And the 3.2 4M41 engine is fuel efficient also. Before I put a K&N air filter on it courtesy of Sir XTO, my FC was 7.5 km/l city driving and with traffic. Now with K&N it goes as high as 8.5 km/l city driving. HTH

September 13th, 2010 10:11 PM #16huhuhu.. that's the idea also 'coz we are just in the city.. it's true that the 4x4 is heavy and i was thinking if i put a little glit or upgrade the looks of the car and its a 4x4 then it'll be ruined when i try to get it off road.. however if i take the 4x2, then i can updo it without a worry. so much dilemma!!

September 13th, 2010 11:14 PM #17Ma'am Kikay and Sir MrGunn, please read my latest post before this post. I forgot to put there that my Montero, even if it is GLS SE, is being modified as of now.

September 13th, 2010 11:32 PM #18And actually many of our members in MSCP has modified GLS SE as their rides. And nag-ooffroad din sila minsan. And one of our members who also has a modified GLS SE goes to Manila from Baguio every now and then. Walang problema with regards to his modifications. I suggest that you visit our forums in order for you to have an idea. Here is the link: http://www.monterosportclubphils.com

Go for the 4X4 variant, even if you don't go offroading that often. Parang insurance yan eh, it's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. Besides, hindi lang naman pang-offroading ang 4WD, especially if it's the Montero Sport's Super Select 4WD system. The 4H setting can be used on paved roads during the rain, for added traction.
Regarding mods, depende kung anong klase. If it's an ARB bumperguard and stepboards, you don't have to worry about them getting ruined when going offroad. Huwag lang yung DUB wheels, sira na nga yung porma, sira pa functionality IMHO.

if you can afford don't confuse yourself 4WD na it gives you more confident you would not know when you need it and in some circumstances it saves life so treat it as one important safety features...don't compromise such feature especially if your family on board.
The hybrid release was also basically an all-new model release for TMPI, I think.
