flickserve, actually black smoke is common to most japanese diesel engines when subjected to hard accelleration. Key here is learing to drive smoothly. With mine, i rarely go upwards of 2500rpm. True mabagal, but walang smoke and fuel efficient pa hehe.

Also, try changing your Air filter. a clogged filter means less oxygen for combustion.

What is the cycle for the change in the air filter element?

    Gentlemen,

Good day to all. I'm just new here at tsikot forums and a newbie Pajero owner. Just wanna ask some friendly and professional advice for my 5-dr 2.8 Pajero Exceed (purchased July 2009 in Subic). I know some folks don't like Japan imports, but that's what my budget permits. I want to maintain my first car, without burning much my budget.

    Here is the present situtation:

-Engine and auto trans are good, very good acceleration and shifting, 4wd is engaging smoothly
-16 inch mags and spare tire, with 75% tires
-Good body and paint, including interiors, all working gauges
-Some steering parts (the part connecting the tire rod and gear box) are from bnew Isuzu trooper parts (compatible according to the mechanic), no leaks and rattle in the steering mechanism (walang kabig). May konting kalampag sa harap, pero baka rubber bushings lang, and some adjustment sa parts.
    - Tried 150kph on SCTEX...so far oks naman.

    My questions:

    - What brand of engine oil is best (performance and price) should I use? For every what kilometer should I change my engine oil?
    - What should be the right tire pressure for front and rear tires?
    - When do I use the S/M/H settings in my suspension?
    - When do I use the OD/L/2 in the auto transmission (sanay kasi ako sa manual e)?
    - Will it be advisable to change the timing chain since the odo reading is at 90K km? or should I change it at 100K? How much will this cost?
    - How do I maintain my turbo and diesel injection (hindi ko babaklasin, but on proper usage)?
    - Plus other basic maintenance inputs...

Pasensya na po sa moderators kung nasagot na itong tanong na ito in other threads. Ala na kasi time to sort out 100+ replies e, been very busy at work.

Your suggestions and advices are very much welcomed. Thanks.

    utoy, welcome to tsikot
    imho
    - choose the highest rating you can afford, synthetic or mineral. I guess CF minimum to as high as CI rating. every 5k kms replace
    - 34 front 36 rear
    - depends sayo kung san ka comfortable,
    - just keep it in D and always overdive on for fuel economy,
    - dont shut down your engine after driving hard lalo na pag sa nasa expressway. allow 2 minutes to cool down your turbo.
    - change oil and oil filter every 5k, air filter every 10k kms, fuel filter and ATF every 20k kms, all fluids ( coolant, brake , power steering, differentials and transfer case) and grease nipples every 40k, all belts every 50k kms.

    - i used full synthetic oil, royal purple pa nga gamit ko. viscosity is 15w-40. change oil ganito... pag mineral, every 5k at pag full synthetic, 10k

ispufi: hmmm, ako medo di ako tiwala sa tpms, iba kasi reading niya compared to the tire gauge na mechanical. then again, dipende rin kasi minsan it actually reads ok.

atty: take aurora from katipunan. starting from the stoplight with the mcdo on your right, wait for the next stoplight and turn left. nasa opposite side yung el dorado, so u-turn ka after you turn left (di pwede u-turn kasi dun). :D

larshell: aside from motorix and el dorado, try sp international na rin sa banawe.

No probs bossing, we're always here to help! By the way, i'm glad you're doing a backread, as opposed to some posters who just type away.... ang daming stock knowledge diyan and i hope the stuff comes in useful.

Anyways, 4M40 is the default engine of the Gen2.5 Pajero (blister fender; local). Yung model code po is V46. Just a bit of trivia
