    2. 2001 Pajero Fieldmaster

What would be the smarter choice interms of..
    - Maintenance
    - Availability of parts
    - Smoke Belching Issue
    - Fuel Consumption
    - Reliability

I plan to keep this car for another 5-7 years.

Hope to get some inputs from you guys.

    Thank you.
as others have said, "X" na ung trooper (as I've heard a lot of horror stories as well on the maintenance side; ride is great though)

    mine's a 2001 FM 4x2 a/t, properly maintained and i'm getting 6-6.8 city and pag highways, between 7.5-12.

i'm planning to get an LC90 VX3400 a/t. ride is superb (parang crown) and I heard maintenance is easy as well. downside is the FC though * 5-6 city and 9-11 highways (same sa FC ng FM pero petrol cost).

between the FM and the LC:

-I'm for the LC if for the ride
-I'm for the FM if for the FC

there were some local lc90s that came out with the 1kz 3.0liter tirdo disel, now that would be better than the fm pajero, but i really like the pajero for its looks, east to maintain and lots of accessories that you could add to it, now if you are looking for a 4wd, then fm pajeros will only be available from 99 to early00 models...

No wonder the 01 Paj FM has the same value as the 03 Trooper..

I'm pretty worried that I'm getting a car that is close to a decade old.. hopefully the "bullet-proofness" of the Paj is still true today.

Thanks for all the inputs. I found an 01 Paj that costs 720k is this overpriced?

bougartt, mas ok siguro pag nag check ka ng pajero, dapat yung malamig na malamig yung makina, yung na overnight na hindi na start, mas ok pa nga kung mas matagal, yung unang start up will tell you alot about your pajero, baka hard starting=(glowplug or battery), baka pag fire up buga ng black smoke, baka mayanig na makina pag start=(engine and AT supports), baka may ibang tunog(fanbelts or bearings), baka pumapalya (injection pump seals), baka yung idle bumababa ng husto(dapat 750 to 800 rpm lang, pag malamig nasa 700 rpm siguro dapat wag mayanig), imho a healthy pajero should start smoothly, susi lang dont step on the pedal. pag uminit na kasi makina natatago mga minor defects niya.

I just purchased my '99 4x4 last March '09 with about 160k on it for 600k. Topnotch performance pa rin. :showoff:

Sir pb..ask ko lang where can i find a reputable pajero mechanic? pansin ko kasi my alog na ang idler arm ko at my "eek" sound sa ilalim, i think near sa lower balljoint. aside from that may leak ng oil near sa propeller, hindi ko lang alam kung transfercase tawag dun? bandang harapan kasi propeler. actually kakapalit ko lang ng goma dun. kaso mukhang mahinang klase ang kinabit ng mga taga baltak. tnx

I have all my rigs (once out of dealer warranty) serviced at Motorcraft in Banawe. Try it out. Maayos don. Di pa harang maningil. You only have to be very early though as the lines can get long. Tel 024148633 - Owner is Robert. Assistants are Annalee and Beth.

colosus, sorry bro taga province kasi ako, cant recommend a mechanic. imho servitek is ok, meron narin sila alignment. para di kana lilipat, pag oil leak alamin mo muna anong oil yan, tatlo lang yan, yellow is gear oil, red is ATF, black is engine oil. usually oil leak galing sa half moons ng valve cover. harap at likod yun.

bale pards pb, yung oil is from the rear part of the propeller pala (correction), near sa diff. what do u think of that, oil seal kaya? and magkanu naman ang usual na charge ng servitek sa labor nila sa suspension naten?

Sir paj4x4: saan po sa banawe ang motorcraft? anu po ang landmark? near them.

probably an oil seal on the prop shaft on the diff. unless its gushing down from the tranny.

I dont know if it will be of use to anyone here, but I tried sa isa kong auto nung mahirap humanap ng oil seal. Is to go to an Oil seal centre, I measured the dimensions of the oil via caliper or bring the sample itself. And the price I paid was significantly cheaper than sa auto supply and it was japan made. They also said in the absence of their stock, they can even fabricate me (minimum of 3 I think) those oil seals I require (industrial grade), though that would be locally. Also they are quite knowledgeable as to the pairing of oils seals, as some oil seals are just dust cover and they have an internal pair, such as those on a power steering box that are sources of oil leaks. FYI lang

just had my rig changed oil today, habang naka lift siya ipinatrace ko sa technician kung san galing source ng leak na langis, kasi at first I thought it was from the back half moon, di naman kasi malakas ang leak just a drop or 2 in a week, the technician found the source in the power steering pump areas so I suspect na one of the oil seal or o ring to, kasi parang lagi ngang maitim o basa sa area na yun,...sana nga o ring lang,,

    Promdiboy, thank you so much.

I started the Pajero and it blew black smoke when I started it. The owner says that its normal for any diesel suv to do such thing. Is that true?
I also stepped on the accelerator pedal while it was on Park, and it would nudge everytime i'd step on it. The owner said that it was a sign that the turbo was still strong. I'm so not sure about what ever he says. All my cars are gasoline feed (CRV and Jazz) so I'm pretty stupid when it comes to Diesel SUVs..

Hope you could help me out.. I also noticed that the Pajero sits pretty low.. As if it was lowered..Could the adjustable "Soft" Suspension mode be the reason why it sits low?

Kung gen 2 & 2.5 yung front height I think is adjustable cause its torsion bar springs, yung rear naman its down to the springs. IMHO

pajeri, kakatapos ko lang diyan, dont forget to buy yung o ring in between the PS pump and engine. hiwalay siya sa repair kit ng PS. may pics and info ako a few pages back. pati yung hose kasi pag kinalas hose mag ka crack siya. para di ka balik balik sa bilihan ng parts,
1 liter pala ang PS fluid na kailangan

bougart, like what pareng BG said kung 2001 pa yung pajero mo malamang sira na adjustable niyan. silip mo shocks kung oem pa.

junkun, check for air leaks muna, spray ka perfume sa loob ng black grill sa baba ng windshield wiper mo sa passenger side. then mag tambay ka sa loob with aircon on. pag naamoy mo sa loob it means yung vents mo hindi na sealed, palit na ng foam.
