August 6th, 2007 01:02 PM #1522Mga sir,
I wonder if anyone can help me diagnose a problem I have with my '99 Fieldmaster. Anyway, napansin ko lang na upon slowing to a speed of around 30 to 40 kph, I hear a whine/groan (whooo.....whooo.....whooo sound) at the front part of the car.
the funny thing is, if I switch to 4 wheel drive, nawawala yung tunog.
Has anyone experienced this? Any thoughts?
BTW, automatic yung unit ko.
Thanks,
Philip

That happened to me. It happened along with the dreaded 'flashing front wheel icon' symptom so I knew there was a problem with the 4x4 system.
I just switched it to 4H for about two months since I didn't have time to have it checked. When I finally switched it back to 2H, the problem was gone! hehehe. It might have been a vacuum leak. Some of my vacuum lines were oily and had some sludge on it (maybe the sludge covered up the leak?).
Mitsubishi claims that switching to 4H (which is designed for road use unlike the off-road only 4Hlc and 4Llc) adds only about 2% to the fuel consumption because whether or not the Pajero is powering all 4 wheels, the front drive components are still rotating at road speed. The front axle does not really freewheel unlike those on old school 4x4's.
JET,
Supposedly you can transfer them. But you'd need to replace the gasket if they are not in good shape already.

August 8th, 2007 12:51 PM #1526Wow, thanks sir Otep. It's good to know na may ibang naka-experience nito. And I also have the flashing front wheels icon. Similar to your experience, pagbalik ko sa sa 2WD after using it for weeks in 4WD, okay na ulit. then babalik ulit yung ingay so switch na naman to 4WD. Will check the vacuum lines, I guess it's worth a try.

Front bearing lang napa-repack ko. Yung rear pressed-in ata yun. Natulog yung Pajero ni woodfire sa shop ni chieffy dati para magawa yung rear bearing.
