Mas matipid pala na wag i recall yung 90k units at a cost of 5k/unit than buy it back later at 1.5M + lawsuits+etc..,

… Compensation was mostly done on those victims that have filed their cases in court. At least 33 victims were compensated with Buy Back settlements. All these things I’m explaining have been well documented in their FB Info site.

Charles Dycoco Thats a practical financial decision when the cost of buy-back is way cheaper than a recall.

For example, 33 units were bought back at 1.5M pesos per unit that will cost 49.5M.

While if they are going to recall the 90,000++ units and do a fix/repair that will cost them (for example) 5000 pesos per unit, thats a total of 450M pesos.

How about the damages to properties, the lives involved, etc? Sasabihin ng company na, meron naman insurance. Let the insurance handle it at lusot na sila sa liabilities.

    i agree with glen.
the corporation probably believes that the decision to settle out of court is cheaper on the corporation, than to go to court.
also, there is the matter of bad advertising, if the case goes to court.
it's just sound business practice, po. it should not in any way be interpreted as guilt.
and, the practice is more commonly practiced as one might think.

Sasakyan iyan ni ENGR. Bernardino Bernardo...

Either the old MS models fixed by themselves or the owners are more aware how to avoid stepping on the wrong brake pedal.

I guess you're too young to remember the "Lemon Everest" owner. It happened before Facebook, but pictures of his car littered the internet back then.

"Bad differential", "Rides like a Jeepney". I talked to the mechanic who worked on his car. He said there was nothing wrong with it. (this was in a private conversation on the side, and I wasn't media back then, so he wasn't afraid to talk to me about these matters)

Ford Alabang bought back the truck from him to shut him up.

The guy used the money to buy a BMW motorbike. Which he then complained about and asked BMW to buyback.

    They didn't.

Which is why the bike "mysteriously" caught fire on the side of the road.

Don't know if the insurance company paid him off.

    -

Buybacks are cheaper than litigation. And they make the bad publicity go away.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Yup. That guy. Expat, I believe.

Don't envy the service manager who had to deal with him.
