sa wakas may umamin din, ganito ba talaga ang monstero at kailanan apakan ang gas pedal para gumalaw? sa mga na drive ko AT (gas at diesel) ay preno inaapakan ko para dahan dahan gumalaw
Hello Doc. let me share my obresvations as a previous owner of "that" model montero and compare it with our previous gen. fortuner. this is by no means scientific siyempre.
1. maybe pedal placement or shape
i have mistaken the accelerator pedal as the brake pedal on a few times. luckily enough i caught my error in time. this has never happened on our fortuner.
2. dead pedal travel. notorious ang mga modern toyota for having a hair trigger brake pedal. also sa montero baliktad "soft" ang brake feel same to a lesser extent sa accelerator
3. turbo lag lalo sa vgt ng montero. takes a good stab at the throttle bago umarangkada
feeling ko confluence of at the least these makes you more prone to error. sama mo pa edad, pagod etc.
It is clearly driver error. Now what's making these errors frequent should be studied.
it's one thing to read the owner's manual.
it's another thing to train leg muscle memory.
while we should all practice conscious driving,
in truth we all practice some degree of reflex movement, when we drive.
alas, our reflexes do fail occasionally.
my 1.18 pesos' worth.

I watched the news clip.
It's clearly 100% driver error. 100% kamote mentality.
Why on earth he/she floored the accelerator pedal in front of a parked motorcycle with a rider on it and a parked car while getting out of the parking space?
"i shifted the stick to 'D', the car started moving forward, and i thought to step on the breaks!"
in truth, he was stepping on the go-pedal.
it's human error.
i can identify with him.
i made exactly the same error, years ago, in another mitsu vehicle.
to this day, i swear i was stepping on the break and not on the silinyador.
'buti na lang, i did not crash into mom's prize bonggabilyas.

it was a basic 2003 lancer mx. cvt na siya, back then.
the only extra accessory was that horrendous factory radio.
anyways, i was already moving, and i thought to slow it down by stepping on the breaks.
aba! biglang humarurot!
i stepped more, the noisier the engine!
buti na lang, a little voice at the back of my head whispered, "Step on the other break pedal to the left of what you're stepping on now!"
whew!
to this day, i swear i was stepping on the break pedal and not the gopedal.
that particular model was, according to some authors, known for the engine-power-sapping ability of the cvt. in retrospect, this saved me.
