IMO, bakit hindi na lang imbestigihan yung mga dealer. Reading all the blog post of the Montero Sport SUA, iisa lang napansin kong common denominator nila. The Monty was serviced at the dealers of the group of Union Motor, Peak Motors and Citimotors.

Old dog + New Tricks + Excuses = SUA

Old driver + New CRDi + Denial = SUA

Family / Company driver + New CRDi + fear of getting fired = SUA

I just can't comprehend why some drivers would step on the gas pedal instead of brake when changing from 'P' to 'N'. First of all, It is driver instinct the moment you press the gas pedal you would immediately know that it is wrong since the feel on stepping the gas pedal is quite different from stepping the brake pedal. Brake pedal would have some resistance when you depress it compared to a gas pedal. Secondly, you would immediately hear the engine rev when you depress the gas pedal. That would almost immediately get your foot off the gas pedal by instinct. Most probably those drivers are either new drivers or is new at driving A/T vehicles hence, causing this erroneous mistake.

Happened to me some time ago. Car had to be moved early in the morning because it was blocking another car. Was still groggy and pressured and accidentally stepped on the gas while reversing. Caught it just in time though. Needless to say that woke me up quick. Drove that car for 7 years and only happened to me once.

Theory: maybe some of those drivers are used to revving their engines right after starting on an MT. The left leg thinks it's stepping on the clutch but in reality they were stepping on the foot rest. Rev and BOOM!

For the sake ng kakulitan ng tropa ko kagabi, we played with my '11 gls-v:

on D position, placed my LEFT foot at the brakes and rev hard my RIGHT. Halos hirap na mag 3k rpm and hindi man lang umurong ang monty.
    Powerful brakes (+ EBD).

Same lang tayo sa Thai diba? Bakit walang reported incident dun?

Oh well, been years this issue has been haunting MS, sana ma tuldukan na ito at makita ano talaga ang problema.

has anybody ever measured the distance of the gas pedal from the brake pedal of the monty?

how about the width of the pedals? perhaps it is wider on the monty thus perhaps the shorter distance?

any comparos on this distance with other similarly classed vehicles?

Nothing really remarkable about the pedals except the fact that central tunnel is wide, which means the gas pedal is off-set slightly towards the center of the driver's footwell compared to... say... an Adventure.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

All or most SUA incidents involves drivers that are unaware of this particular issue. They are caught off-guard the moment SUA happens in their Monty. Are there incidents wherein the driver involve already know this issue beforehand and quickly step on the brake the moment it happened. I think there's none.

My wife is starting to drive again after 9 years, tapos manual pa yung last na nagamit niya. I told her na before shifting from P to D, step on the brake first, many times na na re-rev niya, as in high reving, kasi syempre kung tatapak ka naman talaga ng preno, hihintayin mo kumagat /sumagad yung tapak di ba. Since passenger ako, remind ko lang siya na hindi preno yung tapak niya. Kelangan talaga medyo pag aralan muna kahit matagal na nagdrive. Ours is gtv

That is very important. Para maiwasan na sabay na magamit both feet.

Hahaha. My relative, in his 50's went to the US. He never drove an a/t. When he arrived there, he really could not adjust with driving an a/t. He simply could not stop his left feet from stepping on the brakes (thinking its the clutch). As a remedy, he literally tied his left leg to the drivers seat to avoid any movement of his left foot. After a few days, his foot finally learned. Hehehe.

Heard that report, nakalimutan daw ni kagawad i-engage yung handbrake tapos pababa pa yung daan.
