I saw the ad on the motoring section of the inquirer today. The body design screams Starex!Starex!Starex! It has a 2.4 gas engine, multi reflector head lamps, a different grill and a 10.4 inch something tv screen. Looks great but is it priced right? The Starex has won over the hearts of van fans in this country, the question is will Mitsu Space gear win over would be buyers of the Starex? let's keep tabs on it. Can't wait for a review of the machine though.

Hindi ba dapat the Starex should be screaming SPACE GEAR! SPACE GEAR! SPACE GEAR! Hehehe. Hyundai bought the design and tooling of the Space Gear (a.k.a L400) way back when they were still partners. They just dressed it differently para magkaroon ng sariling identity. But some things are hard to change like the shape of the windows, the side mirrors and other manufacturing 'hard points.'

I was lusting for one when I saw the ad. I just don't know if the price is good enough.

It has something the Starex doesn't have, though. A left side sliding door. That alone would make me consider it. Sobrang nahihirapan ako sa Besta ko dati dahil iisa lang ang sliding door.

You're right, it should be the other way around. The twin sliding doors are an advantage indeed: ease of ingress and egress and maximum air circulation when the van is parked under the sun.

I agree. The Starex based is on the L400 Space Gear and not the other way around. For me I think it's a better van then the Starex.

Heard price was P1.080M, CBU unit made in Taiwan/China.
In terms of reliability and parts availability, is space gear better than starex?

I saw it in the ad. It still looks like the old spacegear/L400 but bago yung fascia and dual side doors.

for 1.080m, it's not that bad na rin. considering that it gets an auto tranny and better features at a lower price.

    momoyster,

Damn, I want one of those. Hehehehe.

Fuel consumption? What do you expect? Hehehe... It's just so-so... mga CRV range.

As for the ride, it's exceptional (Mitsubishi naman, eh)... it's absorbent without being wallowy, and body motion is relatively well controlled compared to the Starex. It's narrower, but then the second row is captain's chairs, anyway, so it's still comfortable.

Surprisingly nice car (much like the smaller Spacewagon before it) that people don't pay much attention to. My aunt only has hers because she's a Mitsu loyalista, and it was the one that most fitted her purposes at the time.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Kung CRV range I think I can bear with it, wag lang bababa sa 5km/li, hehehe
Planning to sell my 02 XUVi and buy a 03/04 gas fed Spacegear. Good decision ba 'yon?

It will be my daily car from home to office (6.5km one way), at the same time family weekend car na din + long drive.
