Mitsubishi is leaving the AUV market? Hmm...biting the mouth that feeds them? Let's face the fact that AUVs dominate the Phil. auto market simply because of its multi-tasking abilities, simplicity, durability, lots of cargo space and the price at par with sedans. SUVs, well, their market are image-conscious individuals, an offroader or the performance lovahs. Yeah, yeah, blah, blah, blah about its 4x4 abilities but will you use it in your business or a regular people/cargo carrier? Sayang di ba? IMO, AUVs will never leave the Phil Market. Pero maganda yung Montero Sport :D

as said in the report... it will be replaced by a low-budget (600K to 1M) new SUV (by 2006)... in essence, it will compete with the other brand's AUVs, but since it will be a global vehicle (not just limited to Asia) it is already an SUV.

    the Php1.580 million 2005 Montero Sport 4x4 features a 2.8-liter turbo-intercooler diesel engine, which gives out 125 PS and 29.8 kg-m
now this is just disappointing! 125 ps / hp? the much lower priced sorento, hi-lux, d-max & starex (all of which has the newer crdi engine) will outrun it any day.

tingin nyo kaya ilipat yung spare tire nyan sa likod n not sa ilalaim?

auvs are a dying breed. i believe if the car comp. make an suv base on their pick up series(fronteir-xterra/paldin), (strada-monterosport/challenger), before(hilux-forerunner/hilux surf), then it would better for us filipinos to get high quality suvs. even cheaper if they use these vehicles with leaf springs so there would be less modifications. coil springs would cost more for the car companies i think. if people asked me to pick between a ford everest and an xuv sportivo, id pick the everest 4x4 anytime since the difference would only be around 200k. just my opinion

125 bhp is good enough for me, though. I don't know about the rest of the market.

The 4m40 has already proven itself over the years as a solid, reliable engine.

saw the Montero Sport yesterday at PriceSmart Roxas Blvd. sabi nung sales rep dun, may discount daw na 85K pero 4 units nalang daw ang available na may discount as of last night. mas maganda nga ang montero kesa sa ford everest. pero medyo may pagka antigo na ang interior design (pero hindi ko pa nakikita ang loob ng everest). leather seats na sya.

There is an OEM rear tire rack for the Montero Sport in other markets.

    boybi,

The interior is exactly the same as the Strada.

the montero sport was a very good buy until mitsu USA recently killed it. while you guys are getting ready to welcome this SUV, america has just lost this ute forever. the main culprit is sales, the montero sport's popularity really plummeted.when the galant-based endeavour came out, there wasn't enough mitsu buyers to go around and the montero sport suffered. mitsu is really in deep sh_t here, stateside.

For some good news: Mitsubishi 4x4 enthusiasts recently went off-roading with the Mitsubishi R&D crew and were given a chance to air their feedbacks on what they expect from Mitsubishi 4x4's and what Mitsubishi should offer to the market.

I hope this will finally mean a change in the Mitsubishi's current direction (car-based SUV's) and start making some serious vehicles the way Nissan is currently doing with the Xterra, Frontier and Pathfinder line in the US.

just saw one in galleria... looks too dated IMO. the strada looks much more newer (especially with the OEM campershell).

though I wish that they offer the gen2.5 with 4wd for that price!

Expect the ride to be the same that of the GEN II Pajero.

personally i will not shell out 1.5M for a Montero Sport...if i want a 2.8 4M40 rear live axel and ladder on body frame i'll get myself a 1999 Pajero Gen2.5 for 850++K

sana nasa 1.!M range yan para patok na patok talaga.

i guess you can also get a second hand montero sport at that price (although scarce). the brand new fieldmaster (eto rin yung gen2.5 dba?) is at 1.75M.
