November 1st, 2009 04:39 PM #3Bro,
You can know when the car was underwater by asking your sellers. If in doubt, you may take off the door upholstery, check for mud residues. Check the seat upholsteries for mud. the light casings, the areas under the carpets. If there be evidences of mud (dust) then its time to give more doubts. Check the engine oil, gear oil, fuel tank and other fluids for evidences of water. In short, only mud/dust residues can tell whether that car was submerged during ondoy..
The Brakes Disks get rusted after 8-12 hrs in case it got wet on the road or during washing. Thats normal.

Disc brake rotors will develop a layer of rust within a few hours especially in a wet environment. Don't worry about the rust being a sign of being flooded.
Aside from the signs already mentioned, try the brakes. Flooded brakes sometimes stick to the rotors and don't move freely because of dirt and rust getting into the brake caliper pistons.
Since it's a new car, check the muffler... there shouldn't be a layer of dirt yet on the upper part of the muffler or on the pipes that lead to it.
