It is certain that there will be valve damage. That will require pulling the head off the engine, Machine work , and several parts. It will be an expensive repair to have done. Hopefully the engine it is not an inteference engine, it will be okay, but most engines today are inteference meaning that the tolerances are closer together. I would find someone who is familiar with adventure, I mean the real good one. good luck

we just receive the proposal from Citimotors Alabang, they gave us 2 proposals actually, the first one cost 50k for all the parts to be replaced/ repaired, the other one 24k for labor only top overhaul daw e, wow , i feel sorry for my friend, any idea where could we bring his car to other reputable shops? Kahit makatipid man lang sana kahit 20k malaking bagay na iyon,

One more question, I've notice that thier proposal is itemized, it includes all the parts to be replaced including the cost of each, last week when my wife went to Honda Dagupan City to have our car check because we have a transmission leak (my wife lives there actually), they quoted her 6k but they didn't indicated in their proposal what are the items need to be replace or replaired, just the whole amount, is this normal on some CASA? or do I have to insist on them to give me the exact details on their proposal?

normally quotations on casas are detailed, including parts, labor and even consumables and shop supplies.

back to the timing belt question. nung tinirik ba sya, pinwersa pa ba nya istart? pag pinwersa nya, medyo mababaluktok ang mga valves nyan.

and oh, can i ask anong km/odo reading nung advie nya ngayon? possible ba na nakalimutan nyang ipa change TB when it reached 70-80k kms?

ganun ba bat sa honda dagupan ayaw ng ganun, at least kung ayaw ilagay ng detailed baka tinataga lang kami.

regarding timing belt, ang sabi sakin kasi ngpagas daw sya sa shell and after that when he was about to leave ayaw na daw umandar, I'm not with him at that time so I really don't know the exact details, 97k na reading nun, nakalimutan nga nya ipapalitan TB sa sobrang busy ng work namin sometimes he don't have time to have it check. Wawa naman

No matter how busy the job is, thats not an excuse. If your friend have time to eat, so with the car. He could at least drop the car at any shop in the morning and pick it up in the afternoon. There is no pointing finger here, but an expensive lesson to learn.

50 grand maybe its about right. This is a major engine rebuild if could go up more depends on the damage. His first priority is to get the job done right the first time. Thinking saving money are good to be true.. one thing you know one problem after another if other shop didnt to it right. Bring it to the specialist. I would!

have to agree here. lahat naman tayo busy eh, but we find time for these activities dahil alam natin ang magiging effect neto.

ayun, because of his busy schedules and ignoring these preventive maintenance requirements, it cost him a lot. ok lang if he is earning 50k/week so pwede ma compensate yan....

    imho lang.

Kalungkot at sakit ng ulo yan. Overhaul na nga, and since mas mahal ang parts ng diesel engine kaya ganun aabutin. Maraming member ng MAC (Mitsubishi Adventure Club) dito sa tsikot i suggest search mo lang para mas mai-refer ka ng magagaling na shop, at least may quotation na siya from CASA, madali na ma-compare - parts, labor and procedure. Good luck.

yup its his fault actually, i just don't to tell him that coz' it might hurt his feelings. hehe , all of us are busy but i guess you guys are right, you just gonna have to give some time and care to your car, just bought a used car last month, first thing i did was to have it tune-up, they also replaced my TB, I still have leaks on the transmission side and Im gonna have it fix tomorrow, ASAP.. im just lucky enough that my wife has a neighboor who happens to be a certified honda mechanic. saves me a lot of money!! sweet!!

AFAIK, rated naman talaga ang TBs up to 100k kms. Some car manuals even state this fact. But some mechanics recommend 80k as a precaution.

Baka lang talaga minalas yung may-ari. I've known car owners with broken TB's kahit wala pang 80k kms. yung tinakbo ng sasakyan.

Timing belts should be replaced at maximum of 100,000 km, or replaced every six years, whichever comes first. I'll have to check my service manual if they
include the max number of years before replacement though.

usually, 80k odo or 8 years which ever comes first para sure.

wow! 50k for the simple mistake? then kung ganon lang din, try to look for surplus engines for the car. the swap wont get that high. well, ganon talaga lalo na kung walang pakialam sa oto yung may ari. wawang oto

If you dont recieve the maintenance log book from previous owner knowing that he did take care the car, then there is in no way of knowing that he did. If you have a doubt then change it before things happen to your engine. "50 grand is not a joke". "Its an ADVENTURE.()

at 65T, the previous owner most probable have not replaced the timing belt.
what is visible from just viewing the engine are the power steering belt and aircon compressor belt. the timing belt is under the timing belt plastic cover.
you will have to remove this cover to expose the timing belt.

You have only one timing belt its located inside the plastic covers on side of engine where the other belts are.

Is it expensive? New engine cost more!

for your peace of mind, and kung may budget na, palitan mo na, since naka 70k kms ka na. hwag mo na paabutin ng 75 k kms.

at that rate, mukhang original pa yung TB mo.
