Help: Pajero steering conversion

i decided to start a new thread just in case others would miss yung post ko sa ibang thread...

i really need detailed info regarding pajero conversion from RHD to LHD. lahat kase nung lumalabas from subic eh either toyota or bighorn gearbox gamit nila...kase nga madalang makakuha ng orig lhd pajero gearbox.. i need to know all related info that i need to know to make sure that the conversion would be safe...aside from getting orig gearbox ng mitsu ano ano pa kailangan? any recommended shops or mechanic? contacts...etc..

i really would appreciate all inputs. much better kung meron makapag post ng pix dun sa mga itsura ng parts na dapat i check at palitan (gearbox, etc)

also, would be great if you could post some nice sites or pictures dito to view some good looking gen 2 pajero lalo na yung mga 3dr.

btw, bakit yug gear box ang pinaka common na pinapalitan? can you tell me kung ano ang implication nito dun sa steering control na sinasabing nawawalan ng control...related ba sila? pls educate me on this...thanks

Simple. Iba orientation ng gearbox na LHD to that of the RHD. Opposite sila. On RHD vehicles, its on the right side, on LHD vehicles, its on the left.

yeah..pero does this have something to do dun sa nawawala control mo sa steering wheel? gearbox is for what? transmission?

Your best bet is a Hyundai Galloper gearbox since clone ito ng GEN I.

Ang problem sa maling gearbox ay hindi ito mag-ma-mount properly (hence welding ek ek). Kapag bumitaw ang gearbox sa mount nito, paktay ka na. Iba ang steering gearbox sa gearbox na transmission.

Gearbox is part of the cause. Siyempre if the gearbox was not made for your vehicle, it will have a hard time working with the other components. Hindi naman one size fits all yan kasi. Kaya minsan bumibitaw.

Hirap nung tanong na yan. Sa akin lang, kung hindi engineered para sa auto mo, wag!!! Steering yan bro.... would you trust your life on a cut and weld job? Hirap kasi sa pinas, sanay tayo sa paubrang trabaho. Gagana yan kung sa gagana, pero remember, its all not factory spec.

Well, madali lang naman makita kung okay or hindi. ... if it turns fine then its probably okay.

Sundan mo yung steering shaft as it goes out of the cabin. The big box it goes into (sa loob ng engine compartment) ay ang gearbox.

VSM...i have a GEN 1 paj na converted also....went thru the process of getting a gear box na Mitsu original pero surplus lang. Comes with a PITMAN arm already. Cost me about 20k parts plus labor pero after 6 months nagkaroon nang leak...so repair kit na mitsubishi and mahal! be ready for this things.

I had mine done at EKS Auto Clinic something in Cainta (Imelda Avenue almost in front of Sta. Lucia) Edmund is the shop owner and expert na sila sa ganitong trabaho. Medyo marami nagpapagawa kaya you need to sked in advance. Sya na rin naghanap nang gear box para sa akin...

Pero kung taga south ka why dont you try the shop mentioned in the other thread yung sa Multinational. Ako taga Paranaque eh wala akong alam na shop that time (Sept 2002)

Sa Banawe Millenium Star (near EROD) meron ata gear box na pajero. Pati shift knob na A/T for LHD may nakita ako don kaya lang brown eh gray ang interior ko.

Makita mo pag pinalitan na gear box it has a better feel than the ISUZU or toyota...besides yung pitman arm nyan welding so medyo delikado. Also the turning radius should improve.

actually, yung unit ko nakuha ko mismong importer na meron na din shop...they stripped the unit once they do the conversion...so in sense, i can let them change it to orig gear box...problem ko lang is kung saan makakakuha nito...

sa tarlac po ako...and don't know much dito sa manila...so i do need specific contacts and directions in case others would have additional suggestions.

sir, frt...any other additional parts that i need to replace which will give a big importance para not to lose control of the steering?

tama yung price ng steering gearbox, pero nagbabago yan pag marami ang naghahanap, kung bag law of supply and demand. Yung presyo na yan pang mando gear box yan, nakuha mo naba oto mo? You also have to check the universal steering joint kc sigurado kung pang bighorn nilagay, they welded the joint n column, kc iba ang spline. Ill try to ask magkano dito sa importer ng surplus korean parts dito baka maka mura ka.

probably yes mas ok siguro bumili ng bighorn that is if ok sayo ang bighorn in the first place....di ko pa nakuha unit ko..

btw, sabi nila..walang weldingan na ginawa...machine made daw pagkakagawa ng mga recent conversion at di na tulad ng dati na puto welding nga...just don't know if totoo that's why i'm still interested to replace it with orig gear box.

i got mine last july bighorn lotus edition 93. so far ok naman. Yung unit mo ba auction mo binili? yung 2.8 na ang engine? ok yan pajero yang nga ang first choice ko kaso d kaya ng budget kaya bighorn nakuha ko. punta ka ng banawe mag canvass ka don personally mas makakapili ka at makakatawad ka ng husto. tutal may shop ka ng gagawa ng conversion.
