Good day tsikoters, meron akong GLS Sport '05 with 13,500km ODO. This week napansin ko na meron irritating sound when shifting to 3rd gear naririnig ko lang ito kapag nakababa ang window, pero kapag naka AC window closed di mo maririnig. It goes like this (1st gear then when i reached 1500rpm shift to 2nd gear, then 1500rpm shift to 3rd gear- during this period kapag nagrelease ka ng clutch dahan dahan kasabay sa timpla ng accelerator pedal meron ako naririnig na ting-ting-ting-ting..... sounds sa makina, kapag sa 2nd gear meron din kaso mas matagal ang irriitating sounds sa 3rd gear pero kapag tumaas na ang rpm ng mga 2k rpm wala na cya. Pero kapag ang pag shift ko is hataw mode like (1st gear 2000 rpm or up then shift to 2nd when i reached 2K rpm shift to 3rd gear timpla ang clutch wala ka naman maririnig. kapag lang 1500rpm ka nagshift chaka ka may maririnig. Merry Xmas to all of you!!!

    Likot, Arvic,

I notice such strange sounds too emanating from the power train when I have "alanganin" shifts and low RPM gear changes or idle speed crawls. 1.5k RPM, as Arvic mentioned, is definitely a low RPM to upshift on flat road accelerations.

My observation is such strange sounds are telling how the diesel engine-to-transmission (tranny) ratios of Adventures work. The power train is configured to be load-bearing, meaning as people carrier.

Try this: when on medium to heavy load, with the same shifting habits at low RPM, does the sound occur? Have you heard the sound only when on light load (i.e., solo ka driving or with just one pax)?

Also, when the upshift is made, at what RPM are you "catching" the shift and picking it up?

There is undue "tension" in the power train when shifts are not made and caught up at the right RPM at certain acceleration conditions. This could lead to premature wear of parts in the power train, particularly transmission-related parts (e.g., release bearings, diaphragm springs, or the clutch disc itself.

My driving habit in smooth accelerating is I upshift only at no less than 2k RPM and catch the higher gear at no less than 1.5k RPM. I don't pick up on speed (or depress the accelerator pedal hard) if at below 2k RPM. During fast acceleration or during "perky" driving, I bring the RPM up to 3k before upshifting. The catch up RPM to the higher gear then also is higher than 1.5k RPM. Of course shifting RPM ranges are variable depending on load, road grade, and how much quick acceleration is needed.

Max torque of the Adventure is achieved at 2.5k RPM. As a rule of thumb, upshift only when or near max torque on flat road accelerations, beyond 2.5k RPM pa nga kung pa-salida or paakyat ang grade ng kalye.

    Hope this helps.

    Holiday cheers!

    Albert

parang chirping sounds ba? Parang meron ako minsan naririnig kapag shifting at very low RPM. when already in gear, i can usually keep at a 1500-1700RPM and not hear this problem (with opened window).

hirapan siya sa 1500RPM siguro sa shifting. taasan mo at baka magkaron ka rin ng clatter sound sa clutch later on (see my other thread) - can't say for certain that is what will happen pero maigi na maging maingat. i moved up my shifting to 2000RPM (+/-200) - dati I did shifts even below 1500RPM. Use 2500RPM when need to pull hard.

Meron ako tina-try ngayon... shift from 3rd to 5th on a little over 2500RPM and catching it at mid between 1500-2000RPM. Bad ko noh?

    Kaya pa yan over 160!

I was able to reach around 170 a few times dati nung baguhan pa Adventure ko, konti na lang redline na. Ngayon I don't push it that hard na medyo middle aged na si ride hehe!

Imagine the fastest I went with a Highlander is around 147 lang, na mas malakas ang makina ng 4ja1.

Now may kasama na ako hehehehe! So to all you owners of the supposedly 'lowly' Adventures with a 4d56 engine, the engine can perform beyond expectations, as long as you give it some Tender Loving Care!

i just bought super sport 3 weeks ago and would u believe that after it was turned over to me i noticed that it was pulling right so the next day i brought it back for servicing (less than 20km pa lang). my friend also experienced the same aside from the pulling right his car rotor disc was refaced in less than 6 months of use

Normal wear and tear, I think. Not a factory defect. Checking of wheel alignment and brakes covered in regular PMS, diba?

Brakes, YES alignment, NO! pero agree ako na hindi factory defect yun.... bka in balance tire pressure, or wala lng tlga sa alignment.... ano po ba sbi ng casa sa complain nyo??

    Bonzi,
I had a same experience. Please see the thread <How's your "Adventures"> in MAC.

If you are pulling to the right when on a flat road and when not braking, the front wheels are not properly aligned: toe, caster, and camber. Mitsu casas are bound to correct the problem at no cost. Brand new vehicles undergo Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDS), including geometry of front wheels and suspension. PDS are on the account of dealers.

    How did the servicing go?

Brake rotor disc warping is another situation. The calipers of disc brakes are self adjusting. It is when you step on the brakes that a warped disc is noticeable.

depends on severity I guess... and your tolerance... but the mitsu casa did recommend every 20K alignment check. I had mine done - usually front toe in/out I think... even slight lang siya. For safety, extend tire life and fuel economy.
