Just got a pricelist from mitsubishi. they are offering P330,000.00 for the galant 240. Baka anybody could shed light bakit kaya ganun. From 1.52 million, magiging P1.2+ million na lang. May catch ba ito? I know may bago nang model ang galant pero bakit kaya ganito kalaki ang discount? Any info please, baka may alam kayo na di namin alam about this car.. thanks

hi there... to my understanding, there is no catch in on why the Galant has a hefty discount. MMPC has lowered the price for marketability purposes against the Accord, Teana and Camry. If you would recall, the previous Gen Mazda 6 2.3 had a similar discount also to woo compact saloon buyers (i.e. Altis 1.8G, Civic 2.0S) but the Galant 240M is still the latest model and the 10th gen Galant should be out by 2009/2010 based on the Concept ZT. I checked on the taiwanese website - Galant's country of origin and it is still the same current model on sale.

imho, there are two things that made them do that. first is poor sales. if you would observe, you seldom see a galant on the road.

and the second, is to improve sales...

True, this entire month, I've only seen one.

The Galant 240M aka Galant Grunder with the horrible rendition of the Boulay pizza grill just didn't work out.

I remember the early units tested by the local car magazines only had one airbag!

If the facelifted 2008 Galant was launched here, do you think sales would have been slightly better?

    2% increase?

I just hope Mitsubishi speeds up the development of the next Galant.
The Concept ZT may give us a hint on Mitsubishi's next mid-size/large sedan (Export market Galant?)

it think it just wants to be competitive with the market para bumili ang mga tao... which IMO, is not really happening.

    Like they said, poor sales.
Also dealer are force to slash a huge profit from a car to met there quota as an agreement to Mitsubishi to meet sales standard. Failure to meet the goal would void agreement w/ the manufacturer. Less sales also are less dealer incentives (money) because of poor sales. So its your lucky day....get it.

Even if the Galant is priced against a Corolla or a Civic, I'll still buy either the Corolla or the Civic, why? lakas kasi sa gas yung Galant compared to the 2 and in these times of expensive fuel prices the last thing everyone would need is a gas guzzler.

With the gridlocks over there plus rising fuel prices, even Corollas and Civics may become considered gas guzzlers. Everyone there may have to resort to subcompacts like the Alto. Take Japan for example. The Japanese make nice cars and all. Yet, the average Japanese driver own subcompacts like the Alto. Subcompacts are the most numerous cars there. Even the little Subbie Impreza hatch I rented stood out like a sore thumb because it looked big.

If you're on a Corolla budget, then the Galant certainly isn't the car for you. But if you're on a Camry budget, the 400,000 peso discount over the Camry you get with the Galant would go to paying for a couple of years' worth of gas.

Simply put, the gas guzzler tag is a relatively meaningless term. Like Jun says, you can apply that tag even to a Corolla or a Civic if you're comparing it to even smaller cars.

Cars are a luxury. Period. If all you need is transportation, a bicycle or a motorbike will do nicely. You buy a car for the luxury of being able to sit down instead of having to straddle a motorcycle. For the luxury of weather protection and air-conditioning. And for the luxury of prestige.

The Galant may have an ugly mug, but it's very comfortable, very spacious and it goes down the road well. It's nowhere near the same class as the Camry or the even better new Accord, but for that money, it's a pretty good car.

Fuel efficient? Who cares? When you get into a car that big, you can't assume fuel efficiency at all. And if you can afford to buy one, let alone maintain one, then fuel efficiency is probably not the first thing on your mind. ;)

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

oh yes sir, considering that you are a Benzaholic- im sure you would have wanted it with the AMG body kits and enhancements! hehehe!

other than that, im sure the Lancer EX will make up for lost time!

I guess the 2.0 liter Lancer EX GT is the Galant GTi for the new generation.

...all you need to do now is order a "Galant Fortis" badge from Japan.

Mitsubishi Galant big discount! Bakit kaya?
