has anyone here tried changing oil and all the filters of their diesel fed adventure all by themselves? I just want to get the feel of being able to take care of my car and make sure that all filters are not screwed in too tight so as not to wear out the thread. My friends say that I don't have the money to pay for a mechanic but honestly I just want to try it even just for once. The problem is, the drain plug is so tight that I'm not sure if I have to turn it clockwise or counter clockwise to loosen it. any help that you can give would be highly appreciated.

Always counter clockwise to loosen a bolt. I would say, in a scale of 1 to 10 - changing oil is 1 - its a piece of cake. If you never did it and you are "scared" or uncomfy doing it - go to a service station, pay them but ask the mechanic to let you do it (just dont forget to give him a tip). Some service stations may not allow you to do by your own so ask them first.
