ok na yang 4spd slushbox. you can't sell a car like this for 900k if it has a sophisticated transmission

Please note, Xpander manual gearboxes have reverse gear that is somewhat different from most Japanese cars, because to get back gear gear should be passed to the left front. 5 speed manual transmission, while the automatic 4 speed with OVERDRIVE button."

Well, you can but reliability is suspect. You can buy the Ecosport with its dry-clutch DCT but we all know it didn't work well with a few owners.

I wonder why Mitsubishi still have to market the Expander with an archaic 4-speed auto. It's so 90s. My old 2002 Exalta had a 4AT tranny with overdrive and many say Nissan should have opted for a 5AT. Will adding an additional gear be that expensive?

Well. Kagaya sa vios, ilalagay nila as upgrade ang cvt transmission down the line. They just want to capture the market with it's low price first.

I have the same thought in my mind.

    Exactly...
The usual marketing... para mas value yung price increase nila sa facelift or all new xpander in the future...

I wonder why Mitsu didn't just come up with an extended wheelbase of the ASX and added a 3rd row. At least, you get a peppier engine and its CVT tranny. That 2.0L NA engine and CVT tranny stood the test of time with the Lancer (2008-2017).

Maybe that would be more expensive...

LOL i don't think you know what overdrive means 4th gear is already your overdrive gear. OD button lang yan i.e. on/off. not an additional gear. or else that would be a 5spd already

oh i meant a larger vehicle like Xpander. a more sophisticated tranny would definitely increase the price

i'm not sure. maybe it's the economies of scale. perhaps 4spd trannies are now super cheap.

another factor is product positioning. you shouldn't make the xpander better than it has to be so they had to cripple it somehow especially that the main competition (toyota) is also using 4spd

Pero lugi naman yung makakakuha ng original units. Mas bababa yung resale value ng units nila once they plan to sell theirs after some time.

Why market a horse when you can sell a cow to counter a carabao? Hahaha... Business is good.
