All-new 2013 Mitsubishi Mirage pricing unveiled; Fun starts at P498,000
Words and photos by Christopher Kho

While we're still waiting for the first shipment to arrive in November, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp. (MMPC) is now accepting reservations for their all-new Mirage. Mitsubishi's latest subcompact made heads turn as it took center stage at the recently-concluded 4th Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS). Why wouldn't it? Priced at P498,000, this could just be the cheapest subcompact money could buy today. And the best part of all, they're offering a P40,000 discount if you place your reservation now.

Not really. The Mirage is a hatchback so it will not be the best choice for a taxi fleet car due to a small trunk.

yung kia pride cd5 daming ginawang taxi nun dati. you only need a trunk if you pick up passengers from the bus terminals or airport. and what taxi drivers would want extra weight in the trunk for the same fare? di naman por kilo ang bayad sa taxi. if the taxi route will be on the cbd or malls you don't need a trunk. lunch hour na lang sa makati cbd boundary na agad sila kasi akyat-baba ang pasahero.

A fair number of people ride taxis after shopping for groceries in mall supermarkets, so useful din ang trunk.

And taxis don't really have routes, kung san lang sila mapadpad based on their passengers' destinations, so perhaps it's better to be ready for whatever occasion.

oo they don't have routes but the driver has a choice where he will pick up passengers. pag di siya pumasok sa bus terminal o airport (at bawal naman siya mag-pick up sa airport, accredited taxis lang pwede) walang ikakarga sa trunk nya na baggage. sa malls naman kelan ka nakakita ng shopper na may dala na 20 kilo bag? yes, but very very rare. mostly plastic bags lang. pag may sandamukal na grocery e di pass, next taxi please.

btw, a hatch back has an advantage over sedans. with the rear seats folded it can swallow a 36" CRT TV. or 2 balikbayan boxes. try fitting that in a trunk.

hey, i owned a cd5 taxi 20 years ago. i even drove that taxi before sometimes. i should know, right?

Taxi drivers are more concerned with fuel efficiency. If cargo capacity is the primary consideration, taxi drivers would be lining up to drive the Toyota Avanza but they don't do so because it consumes more fuel. There are few hatchbacks models because there are no good choices among the current hatchbacks to be used as taxi. They tried Hyundai vehicles but it's just not as durable as the Toyota Vios. Taxi operators also consider price as the main factor and for now Toyota gives the best discounts for the Vios.

This is starting to become a taxi thread, let's get back to the topic.
