The memorandum of the MMDA which exempts EV and Hybrids states that the Hybrid cars should be able to propel itself using Electricity alone. (Sorry i don't have the link)
So Technically Mild hybrids dont count since they can be propelled by electricity. Only pure Hybrids, PHEV and EV should be exempt but i think some manufacturers where able to lobby their respective Mild hybrid to be included in the list, so Hybrid is placed in the OR and when shown to MMDA enforcers would qualify as exempt from coding which it should not be.


Pure Hybrids(Toyota Hybrids, etc) can only travel up to a certain speed in full EV mode. Either after a certain speed or a reduction in battery percentage will trigger the ICE engine to take over.

PHEV hybrids can go full EV mode even at higher speed as long as the battery range is within reasonable percentage. so they can technically go full EV without starting the ICE engine.

Mild Hybrids AFAIK uses a battery/generator to sustain the engine and the cars electronics during start ups, bumper to bumper traffic and stand still. similar to a more advance start stop system. The Electrical motor in the Mild hybrid can never take over completely and propel the vehicle. They can assist but still needs the ICE engine to be running. (please add or ammend if i missed something)

I think this was a DOE memorandum... they don't consider mild hybrids.

I agree with you that mild hybrids (like the Ertiga) should not be exempted from coding...

However, naiintihan ko din ang LTO/MMDA that just wants to make things simple.

depends on the manufacturer/tech.

I personally don't know what can Ertiga's 12V mild hybrid system do.

But with Honda's Grace and Freed, the electric motor will support the under tuned gasoline engine.

I remember a friend who drives an Okavango tell me that his car's engine will turn off when cruising at 60km/h and when going downhill from Baguio.

Si Visor nag post nun, tapos mga okavango group members nag react sa post ni Visor.
Inggit lang daw si Visor na exempted Okavango nila.
But most members dun, hindi naman daw sinita ng mga enforcers when using the vehicle.
